  1. I have a 32 inch Snakehead you can have if you want to really cheese them off......make sure you tell them it's just your little one...lol
  2. I have an 8 inch black shark and a 9 inch pleco that get along well....also 6 1/2 inch Featherfin cat that gets along with them as well....all need new homes....hint hint.
  3. Try the flea market or Thrift stores, you will find quite a few funky shaped dishes. edited for speelinggg
  4. As far as I know it is a "CYA" for the manufacturer
  5. LOL....If you are referring to my little Space Dog Spiff, that cone was his best weapon against his brother and the cats after the first day of him wearing it. If I let my little buck toothed bumble fish at him the leg would be nothing but a bloody stump....lol. That pic of the severe overgrowth was taken just before I did my last trimming, it was shortly after that that I started using a feeding rock and I haven't had to trim since.
  6. As Fatpuffer mentioned, I feed them frozen bloodworms and Mysis shrimp, with the occasional feed of pond snails once a month or so as a treat .
  7. I still have 3 of them in a 35 gal, with 5 Skunk Botias, they have gotten along with no issues for a couple years now. I have found that the addition of a flat piece of rough stone to use as a feeding rock (I dump the food onto the rock and they wear their teeth down picking at their food) will reduce or even eliminate the need for home dentristry. Before I added the rock I was trimming teeth every 5-6 months, but since I stumbled onto the feeding rock I have not had to trim for 2 1/2 years so far.
  8. Ya, mine love to do the same thing.
  9. Last one I had escape made it 4 rooms away, with 3 cats & 3 dogs in the house...found it under the dryer covered in lint a week later.
  10. Do you need some Malaysian Trumpet snails to help sift through the sand....I have tons.
  11. Ya I was in looking at them the other day, just need to figure out how to free up some tank space for them.....damn MTS
  12. Auriglobus Modestus. I have quite a few pics if you need some. Also try http://www.pufferlist.com/ for care and feeding info. I kept a pair of these for a while (lost them in the move) so could likely answer any questions you may have.
  13. I found that the addition of a couple guppies seems to give them a little more courage.
  14. Found my last escapee under the washing machine.....little buggers can go up and down stairs...good luck with the search
  15. If you need thick styrofoam for this let me know, I presently have lots in the garage (most pieces 48"x48"x12")
  16. Be ready with the large tank soon, we got our little fella about 8 months ago and he was 10-11 inches.....I measured him last week and he is around 23 inches now. I found that Safeway and Superstore are the best placed for food, I started with frozen shrimp/prawns (2 bags for 8.99 at safeway) and seafood mix, moved up to frozen smelt from Superstore (6.99/bag) and am now feeding Sardines and Mackerel 7-10 inches long (6.49/bag at Superstore) and he snarfs them down like they were french fries. If your guy does get through the top of the tank just pick him up and put him back, that's what we've had to do a couple times.
  17. Get a nice plastic car model, remove the wheels and put it up on Lego blocks, maybe a drunkin "Ken" doll passed out beside the car
  18. I have seen both around sporadically over tha last couple years, check at Franko's on 32nd, they sometimes get different puffers and oddballs in (I think they are still in business).
  19. That's her "heavy with eggs and lookin' for lovin" look.
  20. Just a quick shot of one of my puffers
  21.  Worst I've had was an attack shrimp, shot out of the tank and hit the wife square in the head....she screamed and ran....once I stopped laughing I picked the little shrimp off the floor and put it back into the tank.
  22. Although you are not looking for a bloodbath, that is more than likely what your friend will end up with once the Pike cichlid out grows the Convicts. Likely the ony reason he had any convicts left is that they are such prolific breaders. If you are looking for fish that will tussle and snipe at each other without causing major problems, look at some of the Barbs or Tetras, they are constantly bickering amongst themselves. Another species that you could look for that carve out territories and defend them with little to no damage to the invaders, are Bumblebee gobies, White cheeked gobies, or Peacock Gudgeons. They have entertaining little scuffles, usually without any damage to either party.
  23. What I did when converting from gravel to sand was remove 1/2 the gravel, push the rest to one side, add 1/2 the sand to the now bare side, after 2 weeks I removed the rest of the gravel and added the other half of the sand. I have heard of other folks who moved all the gravel to a nylon and hung it in the back of the tank (to keep the bacteria in the tank) and added their sand to the tank.
  24. The overgrowth is pretty easy to spot. Top puffer needs trimming, bottom one does not. Even with the teeth as long as they were in the above pic the puffer was still able to eat with little trouble.
