  1. Pleco's are bad. Sharp sand is bad. Nice comfy sand is good. Things that have a big enough mouth to fit the eel in are bad. Things that are small enough to fit in the eels mouth are bad, unless they're feeders.
  2. I know it's awful, I'm very very not happy about losing one of my babies. The other 2 still seem healthy though *crosses fingers*. Anyways the body smelled REALLY bad so we got rid of it after taking the picture. They appeared to be inside him sticking out. I was thinking of buying an antiparasitic to treat the tank.
  3. Ok so we went away for about a week and while we were gone we lost 2 fish in one of our tanks. We called the person looking after the fish near the end of our trip and he said the moonlight gourami was dead so we told him to take it out, so we didn't get to see that one. But when we got back one of the bichirs was also dead (very not happy), and there were worms poking out of him. I tested the water and everything is fine, nitrate is at 5. We had done a really big water change before we left. So I'm not really sure what caused it do you think it's the worms, or did it maybe die of something else and the worms showed up after to chow down?
  4. My cats played with my ferrets. He is super cute!
  5. What kind of crayfish are they? And do you have LOTS of hiding places and caves and that?
  6. I'm leaving baggies with the date it should be fed and which tank it goes to written on them.
  7. I know you can buy silk aquarium plants, they look a lot nicer than the plastic ones, I had them in my dwarf puffer tank for a long time before I went to live. Also some of the plastic ones that mimic the tougher stem plants with short leaves look ok.
  8. I'm going for my grandma's funeral. Yeah my friend there recommened TFI, though she isn't into fish so I wasn't sure about her opinion, but I'll check that out then and if we have time pet parade. Thanks guys.
  9. I checked that out, but are they all good places, or are some not so great and I shouldn't really bother with them? And I live in Calgary... I'm going to Lethbridge... I'm going to Gold's tonight if I get off school in time... I go there regularily... Lol.
  10. You mean red tails aren't fast and aggressive eaters? What was mine just crazy? Anyways I want to see pics too!
  11. My dwarf puffer is pretty passive, he leaves the shrimp and otos that share his tank alone, though once I had a dwarf puffer so aggressive I had to take him back, he picked on everyone, including the other puffers. So yours might be ok with the shrimp, I would try it, I love amano's, they're nice to have in a tank.
  12. I'm going to Lethbridge tomorrow for 2 days, and lfs worth checking out?
  13. From what I hear fire shrimp don't like to play nice with skunk shrimp in a small tank. I'm getting a nano for Christmas too and that's really similar to my stocking list. Yay for nano's.
  14. Pics? If he seems healthy and eating and active it might go away by itself.
  15. Well I'm assuming salt water works much the same as freshwater in this respect, so putting in the established rock should really help along the cycle. It might might go through a little cycle if you have more fish and stuff than the bacteria can handle, but I would think you'd be ok. This is providing salt and fresh water work the same. Test your water, if ammonia or nitrite is readable, it's still cycling, if they're zero and there's some nitrate, it's finished cycling.
  16. Yes sorry to hear. I wonder what went wrong though? Are you going to try again? I miss my little redtail, he was getting too big and eating all the stingray food so I had to take him back to the store I got him from. It would be awesome to keep on to an adult size.
  17. I think you're going to need a bigger tank when they start growing up. I wanted to keep a trigger with a lionfish but everything I read pointed to the trigger nipping at and harassing the lionfishes spines.
  18. Was it eating pellets or anything like that before this? After my experience with one it's hard to imagine one that would refuse food. Have you tried garlic? I don't really know if garlic works or not, but it can't hurt to try right? I hope he pulls though.
  19. Yeah but isn't it the slow part of the river? Anyways my tank was built for converting to salt one day in mind, so there's lots of current in there. Sometimes they play in it which is cool to watch. I suppose it's whatever you prefer.
  20. I'd do some serious overkill on the filter if it's for rays, and keep in mind that tank won't hold them forever... Ours have grown like crazy, the 300 is starting to look small for 6 rays.
  21. Any recommendations for vitamin supplements? Also I've been asked to ask what a good schedule for the lights is, how long and roughly what time of day should the halides, actinics and moonlights be on?
  22. According to http://www.drhelm.com/aquarium/areajava.html the tank can hold 74.8 gallons of water, about 65 with the water an inch below the top of the tank.
  23. take note of the stand and canopy there Erin Oh yeah... so are you down to just one tank now? Or two? We'll have to come over next time we're in the area so I can keep up with what you still have lol.
