  1. Is there any way to contact the seller and either find out what these are, or to warn them not to sell items with wild guesses as to what they are? Could give the auction a bad reputation.
  2. Recently got my cichlid caves from Angel Fins. They're ceramic, do I need to soak, rinse or anything before putting into the tank?
  3. Haven't had any problems with bloat, but also not willing to stress their digestive systems either. Only fed them the shrimp once so, does anyone want some freeze dried brine shrimp?
  4. When you travel on the plane how do you get the "liquids" over 100ml on the plane? Or do you have to pack them in your luggage? I've never tried to fly with live fish.
  5. I'm currently feeding all my mbuna NLS, but I think I'd like to spice it up a bit for them. Can anyone recommend brine shrimp, black worms, etc.? I've seen both on Canadian Aqua Farms website.
  6. Looking to stock a 90 gallon aquarium, canister filtration, with Peacock Males. Any suggestions on types, and max load. Thanks!
  7. Here's the whole story.....The temp dropped over the entire day. My husband turned off the wrong breaker in the morning when our furnace failed. The house had no heat, and with no power to the aquarium at all, no lights etc, I got home from work at 5 the temp was 65. Thanks for all your help. I'll do another water change in a couple of days, another bubbler and carry on. No divorce necessary! lol
  8. Yesterday all the power to my oldest established cichlid tank (55 gallon) failed during the day, and when I got home the temp was down to 65. I fixed the power issue, installed a 2nd heater and did a 25% water change with warmer water. Temp within a couple hours was back up to 77, but I'm concerned what the outcome of this stress on my cichlids may be. This morning they all seem fine, temp is still good, but I know that this type of stress may leave them vulnerable to disease/parasites etc. Anyone have experience with this? Any info greatly appreciated.
  9. I have 1 sunburst male, about 6", in with mature electric yellows and yellow tailed acei, and a male blue chiwindi peacock. All is well. With no female peacocks there is little if any agression, from any of the fish. (knock on wood). I've had this set-up for over a year now.
  10. Thanks Dan. I haven't quarantined yet. The fish that are in there have been together for at least 1 or 2 years. I've had the acei since they were young juveniles, and they're now about 3 or 4 yrs old. I'm going to do a shuffle and seperate him. The last one that died was acually eaten before I could get him out (after death) so I see what you mean about moving him. Bad thing is I'm going away for a week tomorrow, so don't know what I'll find when I get back. I feed strictly NLS, but put in zucchini once in a while for the pleco.
  11. I've had a few acei for a few years, but I don't know how fish die of old age? Symptoms? This fish, when not actively swimming, is floating vertically, and looking a bit "curved", like a lazy "S". He seems to feed normally, but is always curved now. This has just come on in the last few days. Any help? One other cichlid, not an acei, in the tank has what could be bloat, from referring to another site, it has a bump near anus, but has had that for a month, but all others is the 55 gal tank seem fine. Could this be bloat too? shouldn't the one with the "bump" have other symptoms and have passed on by now? Another acei, same age as this one, died a couple months ago, same symptoms, but he has been injured in an ormanment, so thought that was the cause. I'm at a loss but hate to see the fish just going one by one if that's what's happening.
  12. Ayone know what they might carry for Cichlids? Thx
  13. Except when you come home from the auction with things you didn't intend to get! lol
  14. Sorry SuperGuppyGirl, we all knew who you were. There was no hiding your love of Corys lol
  15. I don't think a life jacket would have worked. He's gone to aqua heaven now. RIP
  16. I use a razor blade scraper to clean the glass. Works great for me.
  17. Any suggestions on how to prepare our fish, ie #of fish per bag, preping fish for the sale, etc. Thanks!!!
  18. He's moving around the tank more, but still not seeming to use his tail. I'm gonna have a hard time putting him down.
  19. No change. His tail seems to slightly twitch every now and then, definately involuntary, but other than that he just kind of drags it, stays at the back of the tank. Female is still ok, but I don't think she's holding (dang, I really wanted some fry)'cause she's still eating. Good sign is though that he's eating too, and she's showing no agression towards him. I think I'll up the temp, add some salt, and see how things go. Thanks for all your advice!
  20. Ok, need to pick your brains for info. Yesterday I introduced a male saulosi to a female, and they got along well, him in persute, displaying normally, etc. Today it's almost as if his tail end is paralysed, he's at the bottom of the tank, and when encouraged to move he will, but doesn't seem to move his tail. He is new, had him quarantined for about a week. He has not spots, discoloration, nothing. The female I've had for 18 months, and she seems fine. Any ideas? Could he have just injured himself in mating, ??? I'm at a loss. Water tests out fine, temp is 76. Thanks for any help!
