Ikea has multi-color LED lights that have an easy to use color wheel - about $40 for a back of 4.

You can do some really nice wood stands that can support many many tanks. You can paint them black, or veneer them also if you are looking for a nice finish. A few extra bucks on the trim pieces make it look polished.

As mentioned, using MH or even Marine Spectrum lighting will cause a gigantic algae problem if you are not careful.

If you add some other "live" rock and "live" sand it will spread onto any other sand and rocks that you put in your tank over time.
