  1. If it's a standard tank size you can go down to a fish store and get a glass top. The top for my 35g was $15-$20 if I remember correctly, it's 2 pieces of glass with a plastic hinge between them that run the length of the tank, and a piece of plastic that's about 3 inches wide that goes across the back and attaches to the glass which allows you to cut out holes for filters/etc. Then comes with a handle and some double sided tape to lift up the front.
  2. It could still be done in the same format as the auction in terms of the club getting money, a certain % of sales could still go towards the club
  3. I think this would be a pretty good idea, a 2 day event might be too much in terms of organization or getting enough people to attend both days, but somethingl ike this would get everything done in one day and could streamline aspects of it.
  4. That would probably be why. How old is your test kit? as mentioned above you'll probably want to be doing around 50% water changes twice a week. Was is the nitrate level?
  5. Unless the tank is heavily planted and/or you're filtering with purigen there's no way you'd have 0 nitrates. Your test is either expired or you're using it wrong. A filter does nothing for removing nitrates either, those are removed via plants or water changes, and 10% a week is not enough to remove 100% of nitrates in a tank with that many fry. I'd say you should head out and go get a new nitrate test, or double check that you are using yours correctly.
  6. Plantedtank.net that's the forum that got me into aquariums and where u learned almost everything.
  7. Whoever ended up with that 45 gallon tank got an amazing deal, same with the terrarium and a few canister filters.
  8. This can be purchased at most places that have a good variety of car products, Canadian Tire would probably be one of the more convenient locations.
  9. Reminds of when camping when we were kids. We would pull water logged rocks out of the creek and throw them in the fire. One in four would explode. Yeah, wouldn't reccomend putting wet rocks into the oven. Those things can fly and make some crazy noise.
  10. Place for shrimp to eat/hangout, nitrate removal, reduced light intensity?
  11. Yeah, it's most likely how coarse the sponge is, or it could mean absolutely nothing and just be colours. You'll have to ask somebody at the store if there's no signage probably.

  13. Inline will be nice. I also use an eheim jäger heater and it works great
  14. Is there generally a good amount of parking there? And I assume it'd be good to show up a bit before 11 if going?
  15. Depending on what kind/if there is a reflector inside that hood that 13 watt bulb might be giving you too much light causing algae. You might want to be prepared to either switch down to a 9 watt bulb or find a way to reduce the light output of the 13w.
  16. Riverfront and pisces are really the only places that I've seen anything past amanos and RCS. We don't have a whole lot here unfortunately.
  17. I was at Franco's today and saw one in one of his tanks, thing had to be 6"-7" across.
  18. Excellent, I'll get some this week then. And I'm used to that sound as sometimes one of my gouramis goes for food way too fast and hits the glass and it seems a few of the otos do it once in a while. Does 8 seem like a good number?
  19. Turns out I mixed up leaf fish and hatchetfish. The hatchets would actually be some interesting little fish to have in there, and seem to fit the bill perfectly. Do you have silver or marbled hatchets? I figure I might go with 7-8 hatchets, not sure if I want to do silver or marbled though.
  20. Hmm, I was under the impression that rummies enjoyed the upper area. I've got white clouds in my 10 gallon so would like something different for my 35, hatchetfish are interesting but from what I know they just stay in one spot for the most part which I don't want. Ideally I want something that would stay in a fairly nice school and stay in the upper portion of the tank for the most part, having some nice colours would be good too.
  21. I was thinking that with the gouramis swimming around that they would generally stay pretty close together. That's my hope anyway.
  22. Good to hear, so maybe going with 8-10 would be a decent idea then? Also anyone have any recommendations for something other than rummy nose that would stay smaller and school well?
  23. My substrate is almost impeccable despite the fish currently in it. Between the 2 amanos, however many ghost shrimp (probably 10-15, can't actually count them) and the colony of MTS i've got in there now there's little-no mulm or detritus, substrate is as black as the day I put it in except for a couple spots.
  24. Hey, I'm looking to get some opinions on whether what I'm looking to do will work. I'm considering adding a school of rummynose tetras or similar to my tank, probably 6-8 of them depending what opinions may be. My current tank is: 35gallon tank (30x12x22) Aquaclear 50, Marineland 150b, air pump rated for 40 gallons split into one sponge filter and one corner filter filled with biomax. Not counting the air filters I'm already at a 10x water turnover rate. Lightly planted 7x golden barbs, 2x dwarf gouramis, 1x ABN pleco, 4x otos, 1x flower shrimp, 2x amano shrimp and a handful of ghost shrimp. Water quality wise I don't think I'd run into an issue as the tank is quite over filtered and I run purigen in one of the HOB filters, and my barbs tend to stay in the lower half of the tank for the most part so I think the rummies would mostly stay in the top more open area. So does anybody have any opinions on whether this would be feasible? Thanks.
