  1. Try bloodworms as a supplement, the ones I had would occasionally nibble mysis shrimp but loved bloodworms
  2. Hate to say it but your shrimp might end up goners
  3. They were about half their current size when I got them, the one I'm not selling remained the same size of around an inch.
  4. I've had them approximately 7 months, I've kept them together in a 30G with 2 more betta girls and they are currently in a 75 G with one other I'm not selling and a ton of tiny fish (smallest pygmy corys to largest GBR). The light blue is the most dominant with just a bit of chasing that doesn't last very long.
  5. I've got 3 female dragonscale plakat I'm open to offers on, pics of the three here http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?showtopic=42597&st=0&p=2292820
  6. Pfft my broom is faster than yours FCG ! Besides the corys told me they want me to take them home lol.
  7. +1 on Zoo's post, smaller staff so when busy can be a pain but each staff person has personal tanks of their own and enjoy the hobby and chatting of their own experience with a certain fish or if they are unsure have no problem doing a bit of research to find out about it, great selection of shrimp as well
  8. So once again perusing through aquarium central and spot a lovely lively tank of rainbows labelled trifasciata rainbows lake tebera. Out of nearly 30 shots with phone cam got 3 fairly decent shots and was hoping our experts could confirm or deny. P.s.major respect for the excellent photographers who capture amazing shots of these active fast fish
  9. Dammit that's not allowed. On second thought, why aren't the Cory's do that instead lol.
  10. So doing my weekly WC and in my 70G I notice the male gymno isnt chasing my female away. Sure enough they spawned and must have done it a few days ago as I can see little black dots in the eggs. Now I thought I was safe as I disturb the tank so they won't spawn and being a cool water cichlid who all research says needs lower 70's F to breed being summer the tank is sitting at 78F without heaters. I do ensure they get the cool off during winter so they stay healthy for the warmer months, could this have enabled them to spawn out of character? They are F1's that I had picked up as juvies from the auction and have spawned before but only during the winter months. I've looked all over at other forums and Google and they look exactly like the gymnogeophagus meridionalis, same personality as well. Just baffled.
  11. Lol it is the pair from the auction, got my fingers crossed, just saw the male chasing one of the larger fry hoping it's a male
  12. So for all that were wanting to know...the least killis finally started spawning. Just had the one pair and added them to my cherry shrimp tank, were they were fed frozen baby brine and repashy shrimp food (didn't gel just left it in powder) and have seen no real reduction in my shrimp colony. The female has released as far as I can see around 7 fry, only problem I see is looks to be female heavy spawn. Haven't checked my parameters other than the tank temp sits around 75F. But I could be wrong as damn even the biggest is only half the size of the male. But at least they are finally going
  13. I haven't gotten them to build for me but I do frequent aquarium illusions and have seen the crafting leave with very satisfied customers, their staff are very knowledgeable, friendly as well as all of them are deeply into the hobby. I'd give them a call and ask for Ron, Great guy who keeps/has kept exotic monster fish and he'll be able to answer any questions you have.
  14. Feel the same when I find eggs in my mix tanks lol
  15. Hybridization can happen with most species, unsure if that happened here. I would say option 2 more likely as once one group spawns everyone else wants in on the action, as long as you have males and females of each species, they will more likely stay with their own group for breeding lol. Once they get a bit older time will reveal what they really are.
  16. active and colourful micro macro tank Sparkling gouramis Thread fin rainbows Female betta Splendens Neon rice fish Killifish
  17. Thinking I'm on info overload lol but that first link you sent Jayba I was able to search through the site and they had an amazing listing with pics compiled. Thinking I might see if they can Id them if not just going to have keep them as sp purple. Thanks again everyone for the help.
  18. Thanks Jayba, I'll start there. I talked to the owner and the apistos were collected in Peru but was all the importer would say other than they are rarer to bring in. Was also told that the importer says their name is the sp purple but I believe that's his name for them. I did spawn them in a pH of 7 and the kH was 8, temp 80 F. Glad I remembered to test some water parameters for a change. Also just checked the tank again noticing yet again that mom seems to be doing most of the care with some help from dad but dad is also noticing the other female who is starting to show breeding colours so thinking this means non monogamous ? I really don't know enough about apistos here's hoping some research rubs into my cory soaked brain.
  19. Damn, was on apistogrammas.com and found similiar pics and didn't think to look at fin size. Hunt continues I guess. I've been mostly looking at the eunotus and regani groups to try and find a match up.
  20. So I picked up a few pairs at aquarium central, and after some shuffling finally got them settled in my 60G. Apparently settled them really well after some almond leaves were added to tank they decided to spawn. So basically after squire abit of research I believe I have id them to be A. Sp Pebas but was hoping some apisto gurus can confirm. First 2 pics of my dominant male, last pic is of the rearing female. Pics don't do justice to the truly lovely coloration of bluish purple color the male displays. Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks Jason, everybody got attached to this little one. Especially my little boy who will hopefully stop asking me for more sucker fish now lol. He is up to 10 after the last auction lol.
  22. It's in a 3G ATM and I went with a sponge filter for low flow and as a hide but another worry I had when I upgrade it to a 10G is the possibility of snails. Did you ever have an issue with snails when you kept them Jason? I'll be doing live plants and worry even dipped the plants might still have some get through.
  23. So having picked up at the auction a little beauty leucistic (?) axolotl (thanks Bandi) I found I didn't do enough research and put a thin layer of sand in. The little he/she/it is eating too well and as I'm feeding bloodworms was also getting some sand in its tummy as well. It is passing it easily so no compaction/constipation but I was worried about it becoming a future issue. Hubby to the rescue with an old NLS container lid with a few holes drilled in so it would stay on the bottom. He/she/it took to the new feeding fish with out issue and looks to have finally passed the last of the sand. Now the next big issue still can't think of a name!
  24. Try Fishclubgirl or Wingin it, if they haven't got what your looking for, they can point you in the right direction.
