Thinking About A Dwarf/pea Puffer Tank
Tanganyifan replied to cainechow's topic in General Aquaria Discussion
I kept a few in a fluval ebi with no problems, they were awesome to watch while hunting snails and also while feeding them blood worms sometimes 2 of them will grab different ends of the same worm and its like lady and the tramp with the spaghetti till they get to the middle, then one starts thrashing and pulls the worm out of the others mouth lol. not sure how worried I'd be about them getting cut as their skin is quite leathery, Ive seen a youtube of an eel biting a puffer and the puffer just inflates and swims away - then again who knows how well it recovered. my tank had the ebi planted substrate so I have no personal experience with sharp objects in there. -
what about pea puffers? would they work with cories? i had a couple in a fluval ebi and it was really fun watching them hunt snails, maybe he'd like that too.
-
ya that makes sense, i dont think africans would tolerate cories what about a green terror?

sounds like your husband is like me, I find angels/discus/shrimp all that stuff just too boring to keep, I like aggression and color i'd spend an hour or two with him on youtube looking up different types of cichlid tanks and see what hes most interested in, thats what I did with my wife, she really liked the yellow labs so there's some in there with the peacocks, which she also helped pick out. im hoping keeping the wife involved and happy with this tank will lead to more tanks in the future has he seen something like a green terror before? those might be up his alley

+1 (if that tank is over 10 gallons) i used to love watching my multi colony grow, i will definitely keep them again in the future when i get a fish room

Over Abundance Of Snails!

i had 4 pea puffers in a fluval ebi once and they didnt fight, they were young though so i dont know what would have happened long term. -

not enough pictures -
2 really easy mbuna species to start out with are the yellow labs and yellow tail acei, as far as african aggression goes they are really mild. stay away from auratus and demasoni and to a lesser extent zebras, they get aggressive and a larger tank would suit them better.

welcome my parents live in K town in the summers so I usually go up for Sept long weekend
-
doug @ reservestock said they ship quite well same as tropheus, cyps dont ship well though both times i ordered all the gobies lived, i had a couple doa calvus and cyps... at this time of year though i think its so cold it would be tempting fate. from what i hear the hard part is getting them to pair up and not kill each other, i was quite lucky to get 2 out of 3 to pair up
-
hoping to find local before i fly anything in, esp this time of year last 2 times i ordered was through doug @ reservestockcichlids.com and he's fantastic as well
-
sounds awesome looking forward to seeing it

sorry to hear about your comps if you ever need to rehome a few juvie julies in the future, i would love to give them a good home

for sure, i miss my 120g tropheus colony... fav fish i ever had but fear of bloat might keep me from trying again, losing all your fish a couple at a time is rough
