  1. about 6 monthsish before he finally escaped and i didnt find him in time. it was my first tank. I was about 14... there was no access to land in the tank, but to get out he would climb the filter intake... sorry i cant be of more help.
  2. I had one once, long time ago. was a little escape aritist. he would try for fish but couldnt catch them unless they were injured. was fully aquatic. thats really all i can remember.
  3. I use a credit card to scrape the inside of my glass... about all mine are good for anyway.
  4. Now it occurs to me that I have been doing this the hard way. I always add my prime to water while it is in a bucket and swish it around for a bit before adding it to the tank, I guess in an attempt to let it mix and get rid of the chlorine before adding it to the tank. it appears here that this is not necessary? I can add it to the tank and then add tap water and I will be good?
  5. Don't feel bad Ross. I wouldn't know how to deal with any of that either.
  6. looks like a pom pom crab to me... maybe missing a 'pom'
  7. I would like to change the color of some of the decorations in my tank. Is their any paint out there that is safe to do this with? (ie. wont put anything harmful into the water?)
  8. Here is a pic of my new 46 gal. Currently has a couple of homeless mollies (or platies, the girl who donated them to me wasn't sure) and Sirocco, my vail tail betta. I currently have a rena filstar xp3 and an aquaclear 50 for filtration, the black gravel, and some black poster board as a back ground. I would like eventually to put some african's in after my bank account recovers from buying the tank. Maybe yellow labs? Is this a big enough tank for africans? Anyway thats not for a while down the road.
  9. Thanks for the reply's guys. I turned the output to face the glass and it appears to have calmed the current down in the tank quite a bit.
  10. You could try spraying some break clean on it. My garage experience says that will take almost anything off of almost anything. (I would keep it away from the silicone though, might melt it)
  11. I just bought a new 46 gal tank. On it i put a Rena Filstar Xp3 and and Aqua Clear 50. Is this too much filtration for a tank of that size? The current seems quite strong.
  12. Occasionally over the last week when I come to this site I get a message that says IPS Driver Error, Is this something to do with my computers/internet connection (other sites work ok) or is this a problem with the site itself?
  13. ...My cousin had a tank, or maybe a paladarium where she siliconed some slate tiles to clear pipe to create a false floor, the water came up about a cm over the tile to give her red bellied toads a place to perch, and a place to swim underneith. It was just guppies and froggies, but it was a nice effect and she never had a problem with the tile, so I think you should be ok.
  14. Did you get that rock from burnco? I got some similar looking slate from burnco and had the same looking algae the entire time it was in my tank. I dont know what it is, but it tended to accumulate it areas with high light. I ended rescaping my tank and took the rocks out, not really due to the algae, just went for a different look.
  15. I came across this and thought you guys would get a kick out of it. Made me think of those critter trail things for hamsters and such. http://thecontaminated.com/pipeline-fish-tank/
  16. someone once told me that if you scrape algae off of things and let it float away into the water small peices of it have ability to reattach themselves to other tank decorations as well as possibly the glass, filter etc. making the algae problem worse in the long run, so I always try to clean my stuff outside the tank. This may be an 'old wives tale', so feel free to correct me if I am wrong...
  17. I didn’t mean to imply that the Mod's were doing a bad job. You guys do a great job. Just stating that most of the issues on the bored could easily be solved if people thought about what they posted and stopped making everything so personal. It would probably make things easier for the Mod's as well. Cheers to the excellent regulars here at AA. -Jilly
  18. I have been a member of this bored for a long time now, I don't say alot but I do lurk, and find myself here almost every day just reading posts and trying to increase my knowledge. I just wanted to say that lately this bored has had a decidedly different feel. Like we are losing our feeling of community, flaming, sniping and taking offence to others, I am not going to point any fingers, but I think it is something that everyone can work on. Next time someone posts something that you disagree with how about you take a second to think before you reply. The Mods do a pretty good job of keeping things under control, but lets make their jobs easier and also make AA a better place to be. We are all here because of a common interest, and lets try not to forget that. We are supposed to be Friends. Thanks. -Jilly-
  19. I am running the same filter, but got it used, with instructions, but not in English. hehe. We managed to figure it out from the pictures, and a walkthrough from the previous owner... but I also appreciate the link.
