Rainmaker69
Can you run T10 lights in a T8 fixture? Went to replace my tubes and when I got home I noticed that they were T10 and acording to the Hagen web site, that is all they have. Curious as I have T8 Power-Glo's now and Hagen only lists T10's? What up wit dat?
Sam Chicklets
Try a diferent manufacturer
pat
Do you mean T12? I think a T12 will work on a T8 fixture.
jvision
A lot of these aquarium bulb manufacturers have odd sizes. I used T6 bulbs for a while - ran them w. a T8 ballast. So, I think a T10 should be fine with a T8 ballast. If anything they may be a bit overdriven.
Rainmaker69
So, if overdriven, I would expect a shorter lifespan of the bulbs?
Tanker
Possibly shorter span, yes... Or an exploded bulb over your tank, or an overheated ballast... Not something I would mess with.
Rainmaker69
Thanks for the input. I installed the bulbs to try them and the fixture "hummed" about 3 times louder than normal, so I removed them. I will be taking them back and find the proper ones. Funny that the Hagen website only lists the T10 but the LFS can order T8 or T10.
Dave
As long as you have an electronic ballast, it'll run anything above T5. I believe you need a specific ballast for T5's I'm running T6's on an electronic ballast just fine. If you have an old magnetic ballast, you're pretty much restricted to the fatter, & less energy efficient T12's
