kona
Has anyone been on a tropical fish collecting trip to the amazon or other areas etc. If so, what is it like, good/bad or otherwise. Pros/cons prices etc. Or does anyone know of a repuatle site to checkout for this?

jvision
Spencer Jack of the Afishianados is organizing a collecting trip for hobbyists, and I believe there are a couple AA members who are planning on going with.
Albertan
There is a collecting trip set up more or less annually at monsterfishkeepers.com as well for cichlids. I think its a little late to get in on it this year though, but you could do a search there and see what its all about. I don't know if this is the same one jvision is refering to. Toirtis
I have, and a few of us in the CAS may be doing an Amazone trip again as soon as November of this year.
kona
hey Toirtis, Can you tell me what the import costs involved are and how many fish you are allowed? Thanks TK.
Toirtis
See my other post about costs....and remember, you would need to add the price of the trip (about $4100) to those costs....so if you are looking for cheap fish, you are really out of luck. kona
It's not about cheap fish, but rather is it worth bringing fish back or just going for the experience ?
Toirtis
Its worth it to bring some fish back, but again, its about who you know, as they would need to be housed for about 24 hours after you left, and then shipped up by a known exporter (unless you had some very direct flights and close connections)....extra costs would likely be about $300-$500 for a single box of fish (possibly more, depending on what species were involved). kona
Do you recommend Margarita Tours?
Toirtis
Do you recommend Margarita Tours? I cannot...I have never patronised them. However, the guys from Riverfront and the CAS that went on the last Amazon tour highly recommend the outfit they went with (I will have to get you a name topmorrow).
