rudy
Just picked some up today so I thought I would post the idea for those new to bioball filtration....they are a rip off. Go to Wholesale sports and buy some shotgun shell wads for reloading shotgun shells. You get a big bag of 500 for $9.99. I use Remington powerpiston brand as they are usually the cheapest and have good surface area.

rudy
Albert got me. I am going to commit hary carey, however I figure it may take me 1,000 shots to be successful. :P
canucklehead
Bio balls are a rip off, lava rock works well too, but it needs to be broken into smallish peices, waddings wont scratch an acrylic sump though
rudy
I have seen Canuckleheads basement after he has been hammering away at lava rock. Looks like Wilma should live there.

Rainmaker69
I have read on other forums where the individuals use plastic army men for bio-filtration.
Nandopsis
Thanks for the tip Rudy. I'll have to check that stuff out. I use plastic shavings in most of my filters. They have lots of surface area for little space.
FishManTy
Lava rock is a royal pain the @$$. I smashed the concrete at the side of my house accidently when trying to break down a piece. Had my sledge hammer, then the lava rock on a huge piece of would,a nd I just started swinging. It wasn't till I moved the wood and the pieces of rock that I noticed I screwed the concrete oops!
