hermit crabs

How long do they live, had a few blue leg and 1 red leg in my nano .

blues only lived about 8 months ( I had a variety of empty shells in the

tank for them to grow into ) . red is still ok but has not growen much over the year

that iv had the tank up and running .

That's actually an interesting question... I've never seen a site that bothered to post the typical lifespan of hermit crabs.

I can tell you that I've had my dwarf zebras for a year and a half now, and with no indications that they are likely to die of old age any time soon.

When I started SW over 4 years ago with a 20 gallon tank I stocked it with 12 blue legged hermits. Believe it or not I still have one of the origials left.

My oldest hermit is about 5. he's a blue leg the size of a toonie.

if crabs only lived a year how would you explain the monster sized ones?

My snails don't seem to last however...I think the crab gets them eventually.

I don't think the ever die LOL,but they will kill each other for shells.make sure you have a good supply laying around.

Just gonna say this, I own land hermit crabs and they can live up to 50+ years in wild. Range from marble to softball in sizes. The golf ball or larger hermit crabs in stores are at least 10 years old
