How popular do you think these shrimp will be?????

Recommended Posts

I have had a request for Sulawesi Snails as well, and inquired about them my supplier does not have them in just yet, but when he does he will add them to his stock list.

I have been only concentrating on the Shrimp, and I am not sure about the sucess rates on the snails either.

I Personally have troubles keeping snails, dunno could be because of my water chemistry here so I am reluctant... but if they come avail, I will work on getting someone who is more experienced to take on the snails I will bring them in at that time, but I don't want to risk loosing them too.. especially since I DON"T have ANy luck with snails period!!!!

Talk to my wife (bottomdweller_fan), she has had some success with these Sulawesi snails. From her original pair, she already has three babies.

I belong to a forum in Germany that has a some very knowledgeable shrimp keepers. They are a great source of information their website is http://www.crustaforum.com/board/index.php.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have been reading about them there, and there have been sucess's... I don't think they are as doomed as we believe here. Most of the North American market got these shrimp from one source who had infact put them in less then recommended PH levels 7.0 which is way to low for these wild caught shrimp. They are used to HIGH pH levels 8.4 and higher with Soft water...

This individual really put a bad taste in the mouth on alot of hobbists on these guys, I think with extra care an attention there can be success like the German forum.

Thanks for the link it really helps people understand its not all doom and gloom !

  • 2 weeks later...

 So, after a lot of phone calls talking to my supplier in Indonesia who can only get this shipment to Vancouver port of entry. Of course, this means shipment to Edmonton etc.. would be difficult.

Well, after alot of talking to customs, brokerages trying to find a transhipper who can manage these shrimp etc.. I can not find a safe fast shipment to Edmonton.

I have decided that I won't be doing this order at this time... :(

I would be more satisfied if I can be assured of their safe arrival without too many loss's... I will keep my ears and eyes open for another option, I know Edmotnon is trying to become a port of entry here shortly but it is not yet.

If there is an alternative that someone knows about I would greatly appreicate their input. I really would love to obtain these guys, but my resources have been expired. :grr:

Anyways, I am still on the hunt for wild betta's and I might have other options for mouth brooders soon. I will keep everyone posted.
