  1. Thanks Jason and Eugene. Raymond has been in touch with me and I hope ACE makes lots of money off the donations!
  2. Can someone connect me with whoever is in charge of accepting donations for the auctions. I have some equipment and supplies I would like to donate and have not had a reply from the email I sent from their website. Thanks.
  3. I think you are right. They were good times, but I don't think I'd want to do it too often!
  4. Thanks everyone - we are moving out to our very own 13 acres of beautiful land in the interior of BC. jeremoose - thanks for the great idea (rummages through boxes to find her camera ).
  5. I just wanted to let you all know that my husband and I are moving out of province and have decided, after a great deal of soul searching, that we will not be able to continue in the aquarium hobby . We began our journey about 5 years ago with my husband starting a 23 gallon tank for african clawed frogs and me starting a 75 gallon with ropefish. I would just like to say that although I haven't been on the site for a while, it has been great getting to know a lot of you. I particularly remember the "meetings" in parking lots where fish and aquatic plants changed hands. I also remember the time I was the delivery person for a Spencer Jack order where the plane did not get in until around midnight and I was meeting people to give them their fish at 1 and 2 a.m. I hope that you all take care of your fish, yourselves and each other and I will hopefully be able to "lurk" here occasionally, if only to vicariously enjoy the fish-keeping hobby through all of you. To quote the title from one of Douglas Adams' books - So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!
  6. Thank you, Tanker, as always you are amazing!
  7. Welcome to AA! I also have a brackish tank with some mollies, a knight goby and a couple of other species of gobies (no dragon goby, though). Pictures are always welcome!
  8. I have seen the zebra loaches at both Big Als and Family Pet Supercentre in Sherwood Park. I think they are a bit cheaper at Family Pet Supercentre. Sorry to hear about all your losses.
  9. After reading the posts here I went on Aquabid and bought some really healthy young Corydoras barbatus from TNT Aquatica. He also showed me some of his plants and they are gorgeous. While talking to him he mentioned he might be able to bring fish, etc. in from Asia and suggested I send him a "wish list" and he would see what he could do. The best part - he is here in Edmonton, has a website www.tntaquatica.com, and is a member of the forum (homerjs777)!! If anyone else has a wish list of Asian fish (catfish, loaches, barbs, etc.) send me a PM and let's see what we can come up with.
  10. Please remember it is illegal to transport live wild crayfish in Alberta. See this thread for more information.
  11. Get yourself a couple of girls and a boy, put them in their own tank, wait a little while and then your bass can enjoy even more crayfish as a snack!!
  12. I have an SAE in with congo tetras, yellow tailed congo tetras and blue tetras and they all get along fine. Glad to hear you still have both and that they are doing well.
  13. I'm not sure of the thickness but was told that the taller the piece of acrylic, the thicker it needs to be. MonsterFishkeepers has a sticky that talks about glass thicknesses, but I can't remember if it also discusses acrylic. Good luck.
  14. No, he's in a different tank. This one is a natural color (so kind of greenish). Japanese trap doors don't eat plants but need lots of algae to survive and thrive.
  15. My husband has an 11" axolotl and a 6" axolotl in with an apple snail and a couple of japanese trap door snails. Neither axolotl has ever bothered the snails.
  16. I have 3 bristlenose plecos, 3 parotocinclus, and 3 giant otocinclus in the tank and don't have any scratching. I got acrylic because it was lighter. FYI my tank measures 8' x 3' x 2', is plywood with an acrylic front and I used pond liner as my interior. In total it cost me about $950 in September, 2008.
  17. I purchased a sheet of ¾” clear acrylic cut to the dimensions of 90”x23” and paid $360.00. The company is called Plastics Plus and will give you a quote if you are interested. I have been careful with my acrylic and haven't had any scratches - yet anyway. If you would like pictures just check out my plywood tank build under the members journals. Good luck.
  18. I have two Ctenapoma acutirostre (Leopard bush fish) that I got from Spencer. Any fry that will fit in their mouth are gone within a day or so of being added to the tank. These fish are amazing because of how wide their mouths can open and the way they hunt. They look extremely lazy and sort of "float" around the tank - until the fish or invertebrate is within grasp - and then watch out! Hope this helps.
  19. That is a gorgeous ray!! He's fun to watch when he is eating. Nothing seems to get past that mouth  . Maybe you should call him Hoover -roll-
  20. I have some fussy eaters and have brought in a number of wild caught species and have found that they have moved over to NLS pellets and wafers faster than any other food I have tried. As well, my husband has an axolotl (aquatic salamander) who refuses to eat anything except NLS wafers. I like the fact that the food does not break up on contact with water, that there are different sizes for different sizes of fish, and that I don't have to feed as much for everyone in the tank to get food (a lot of my fish live on the bottom - hence the name bottomdweller_fan ). I also appreciate all of the sharing on this topic as it gives new (and not so new) fish-keepers valuable information in order to make an informed decision (whatever that decision may be) about what to feed their fish. Thank you.
  21. Like Darkangel, I have had S. petricolas in a planted community tank for about 2 years and they have been no problem at all. They really like to hide in the rock caves.
  22. I'm not sure about stocking levels, but I wouldn't add the black molly. I find that my mollies did not do well until I put them in a brackish water tank. Hope this helps.
  23. As for group orders I can understand being concerned; however, any good fish shipper will send you pictures of their actual stock when asked so you can see what their stock is like. You can also google them or check forums (e.g. MonsterFishkeepers) to see what kind of experiences the people on the forum have had with the supplier. If you are thinking Spencer Jack, I can personally say that his fish are amazing. I have only lost 1 fish out of the dozens he has sent me. Hope this helps.
  24. Yes, that would make it hard to catch him . My male stays extremely close to the eggs. I wonder if your bristlenose chased him away from the eggs the farlowella was supposed to be guarding.
  25. Congrats. I just had my second batch hatch. You may want to put the male in with the eggs. My male spent his time caring for eggs and did not eat the fry even after they hatched. You will need to make sure there is enough algae for the fry or they won't survive. Good luck!
