Boom
Jason, do you have 2 pumps or just one and the output is split? Also, the I have to log on to the canreef website just to view the posts. Don't really want to sign up there. Can you send me any info on the herbie system? jvision
I just run one pump and T it off. With 3/4" returns, I don't have to worry about cutting the flow off - the pressure is quite good. I don't think you'll need to log in to see this thread: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthrea...5427&page=8 He's got the drain closed quite a bit, running the overflow right up to the emergency drain (the standpipe) - mine is still about 1" from the top of the emergency drain. Boom
Thanks Jason. The bits you got from Princess Auto, what size are they?
Boom
So I picked up my 180 last night, and a sump as well. Now to drill the tank. I went to Princess auto today and couldn't find any bulkheads, nor any glass drilling bits! So instead of trying to screw around and do it myself, I'd rather pay someone who's done many before, to do it for me. Arnold at Aquagiant said he'd do it for 50 bucks, but I still have to find my own bulkheads first. I'm gonna give Aquarium illusions a call. Anyone else maybe help me out with drilling it? I'll need holes for a 2" (drain) and a 1" (return) bulkhead. Edited October 14, 2008 by Boom
jvision
I was able to find any size bulkhead at Renown Indusries - they hooked me up w. the 3/4" bulkheads I needed. The bits I got from Princess Auto were just diamond tip bits - not necessarily for glass. They go up to 1.5", I think. Not quite big enough for the bulkheads I had, but I just used my Dremel to grind out the rest - got that tip from a guy who used to build/drill tanks for a living. rocker85675
before i knew how easy and cheap it was to do myself, i had illusions (concept aquariums) drill my 135, he charged me 30 bucks a hole (x4) if the dude from giant will do all your holes for fifty bones, thats a pretty good deal. get your bulkheads FIRST, a 1.5 inch hole does you no good if you have 2" bulkheads, or vice versa. take your time and think it through, do it right and you only have to do it once
2manytanks
I discovered, too late, that a plumbing company here in town (Red Deer), Bruins Plumbing and Heating, carried everything I had needed for my plumbing. Too bad I didn't know about them sooner, it would have saved me a lot of time and money running around to a half dozen places. You must have something like Bruins near you.
