Parachromis1
Looks good Greg, why the use of Lava Rock though? It doesn't have the best bio capacity and has dead spots throughout...
Fishful Thinking
The pieces that I use are really small, but I understand it is not the top of the line for biomedia. Still, it does work, just not as efficiently. What do you mean by "dead spots"? Over time I have been using more and more of the plastic pot scrubbers, which I find easy to clean and work with. jvision
If you have a lot of 'gunk' going thru your filter, lava rock can clog. If you have a good mechanical filter before your lava rock, it should last for years. I've had lava rock in use for a couple years, and it's still working. Fishful Thinking
Oh, well the junk isn't as much of a factor right now. I think I'll prefilter just to be careful.
Fishful Thinking
Some pics from tonight. Apologies on the size, but I used a plugin to create the fish names on the bottom and it exports differently than the program that I normally use. Slough Shark
I really enjoy this setup of yours. I like the colour of these fish better than the "Black" Kiriza. Have you tried for any shots of them with their mouths open? They have an interesting set of teeth.
Fishful Thinking
Thanks, Taylor. I really like them too, especially the variation in color that they have. I haven't really seen an opportunity for an open mouth shot, but I will put it on the list of shots that I want to get.
Fishful Thinking
My little petricolas out for a cruise during feeding time:
Fishful Thinking
The synos have been pretty shy in this tank. They mostly come out at feeding time to cruise through for any food. I am impressed with their speed! jvision
My sister-in-law just saw my Petricola for the first time and fell in love! She asked if she could keep any in her 10 gal...
