turtlechick
I picked up a used 110 gallon tank. Now, it has been dry for about a year in the guys basement. Is it okay to fill with water and use?
African_Fever
It would be best to fill the tank in a garage or somewhere where if it leaks it won't be a problem. Silicone can sometimes dry out and leak, but in my experience a year isn't all that long to have a tank empty for.
thegrandpoohbah
The real question is how long was it in use before that? I believe silicone has a service life of around 10 years, maybe less.
turtlechick
I believe he had it for 3 years running prior to that. I filled it and it doesn't seem to leak anywhere. should I go for it?
Blue Ram
Most likely good to go. Just make sure it is level and the stand is well made.
Parachromis1
Make sure there aren't any stains on it, and there are no bubbles that have formed in the silicone.
snaggle
It will not hurt any thing to let your tank sit full some where for 24 hours. to see if it leaks.
patrick
Check the silicone seal inside the tank all the way around. If you can peel it off, then it needs to be re-sealed. Don't be "careful" when you do this. Silicone does not come off unless it's too old, or the surfae was not cleaned properly when applied. Brad has a good point. It's not going to hurt filling it up in a safe place first.
