jakel2k
I've recently had an interest in starting a shellie tank. The ability to have such an intersting fish in a small tank is facinating. I was thinking Brevis or Multis. My question is where can I get some good sized shells? I haven't seen for escargot shells yet at safeway and was wondering where I can find some. I could always go with the pipe elbows or pots from home depot but that is not as natural and the shellies might not spawn as well in these conditions. Also what other school of fish would do good with these? I'm stuck between a single species or multi species tank.
Vallisneria
what size tank are you planning? that will help with choosing tankmates As for the shells. I got some old snail shells from Big al's. Just went and asked if they had any empty ones. I think i paid 25cents for the big ones and 10cents for the smaller ones. rahim101
I moved this to the African cichlid section as most shellies come from Lake Tanganiyka with the exception of the Ps. Lanisticola from lake malawi..... I would recommed at least a 20 gallon long tank to able to have a few of a single species in the tank. A 10 gallon would be fine for say a pair of brevis or a trio of multis. But, unless you have a proven pair, you are better off with the 20 gallon tank so you can buy say 6 fish to start and weed out the outcasts and extra males. As for other fish in the same tank, some dwarf rainbows or danio would work but in a tank that size I would not recommend any other tangs!!!! I hope that helps for now, please post back if you have any more questions!!!!

jakel2k
Awesome tank and almost exactly want I was looking for. I'm currently only doing research on this type of tank and wasn't planning on doing one for a month or two yet. If the tank is still available at that time, then I think you have a buyer.
