FishyFishy!
Hey everyone! My friend has recently decided to add a Motoro Ray to his indoor freshwater pond. The pond is a 500 Gallon, with a glass bottom. I have searched high and low on google, and once again, come up with a contradictory set of information. As I have only used pool filter sand with my ray, I'm not sure what to tell him regarding the bare bottom. Are they ok with bare bottom tanks? I know they like to burry themselves in my sand, but at the same time bare bottom tanks are 90,000,000,000 times easier to clean. Any thoughts? skynoch
They are fine on barebottom tanks. It may take the ray awhile to adjust to moving on it but will get the hang of it quickly. To me it takes a big part of the rays activity away as rays will sift through the sand to look for food and it will also help a ray when feeling stressed to bury itself. pagani
I don't think it matters if the tank isn't in a high traffic area, I would recomend it for pups though. Also if the rays start spawning and the female is getting beat up, sand would be wise so she can hide from the male.
Evolution
I keep mine one sand. I find sand is easier to keep clean than bare bottom tanks because bare bottom tanks need to be algae scrubed and sand bottom tanks don't.
