baller403
Can anybody tell me if i should put a little salt in my discus tank? and what are the pros and cons.
jvision
Why are you adding salt? For most FW fish, salt really only needs to be added when removing parasites like ich. If you're talking about adding salt on a permanent basis, then I'd say no, you don't need to put any in.
Funky_Fish14
I think the salt would be counter-productive to maintaining the low pH that discus need. I dont know if I would add salt with discuss unless, as mentioned, you were trying to treat something. I do however run salt in my South and Central american tanks most of the time but its only like a quarter to half a cup in like 75g for example. Fish seem to heal from any injuries faster with a tad bit of salt in the tank and I dont use much so my pH isnt affected. I have yet to have any fish develop any infections from injury or get sick or anything and have been doing it this way for a couple years. *Knock on wood.
