Jayba
I understand why some tanks are called tall or long. That makes sense. But what is a breeder? As in say a 45 gallon breeder? Thanks for sharing what u know. Jay Edited December 7, 2010 by Jayba

BettaFishMommy
my theory is that 'breeder' dimension tanks are easier/more space economical to use in a stacked setup, utilizing as much space as possible without taking up a lot of floor space. serious breeders would want to fit as many tanks in their fish room as possible, so my theory makes sense to me, lol. jvision
Tanks labeled as "Breeder" have the largest standard footprint. You can get tanks with bigger footprints (for example I had a 40gal "cube" w. a 24x24" footprint, but it was custom - you wouldn't find it on a typical tank list).
