Sprucegruve
I found a great deal on 60 pounds of polished round amethysts and I'm wondering if they could be used as substrate in one of my many aquariums?
jewels
For what its worth, I have had a thumb sized chunk in a nano for a few years now. It ( the stone) has not changed shape/ colour / appearance in that time. Fish, plants and invertz seem fine.
Sprucegruve
That's a step in the right direction, thanks jewels. Does anyone else have experience with this?
jvision
You can try the vinegar/acid test - put a little on the rock, if it bubbles it probably shouldn't go in the tank. But, if its an igneous rock, chances are its fine.
rompergoddess
I've had two large chunks of amythest crystals in my tank for over a year, and the snails love it (crawl all over it), as do the cories! And, it looks really quite pretty when the light hits it just right LOL
Sprucegruve
Ouch I had no idea a good deal on 60 pounds of amethyst is 200 dollars, granted it was shipped from china Does anyone think I should still go through with buying it? GIJester
I had some pieces of Amethyst back in ontario we gathered from closed down mines. Had it in a 90 for about 2 years with a fire eel before I shut down the tank and sold it - did not seem to have an ill effect
