nanmer
I was just reading the Walstad article in the planted tank forum. She states that cherry shrimp do fine with no heater in the tank. I have always raised mine in a heated tank but no heater opens up a world of possibilities! What success has anyone had with the "no heat" method of raising shrimpies? Sprucegruve
I have a heater in my cherry tank set at 73.5 but when the lights on it gets to 81 Throughtout the day It takes all night to get back down to 73.5 so realistically, you don't need a heater But mine are breeding with a heater so I keep it in there Edit- my shrimp tank is only 5.5 gallons so it heats up fast, in a big tank like 30-100 gallons I don't know how much heat would absorb into the water Throughtout the day Edited May 18, 2011 by Sprucegruve
jvision
When I started with CS I had them in a 10g planted w/o a heater. In about 6 months, I had more than I could count.
DanGofCalgary
I tend to use cherry shrimp as clean up crew (and sometimes food) in other tanks. The brightest, most colorful ones tend to be in my non heated killie tanks.
Vallisneria
Yep, no heater works fine. I had no heater on my shrimp tank for a while and my shrimp were still breeding like crazy.
arixonbarnes
The 3 tanks on the bottom shelf of one of my tank stands is at 68 degrees F right now and the cherry shrimp (and bristlenoses) are doing fine.
DJay
No heat on any of my shrimp tanks and I can't complain about the results I'm having. Started with 5 shrimp about 2-3 months aback and now ...
