albert_dao
Oh man, I use to keep this fish. LOVED IT! My male got to be about 5" and was one of the MEANEST fish in my collection -- Scratch that, it WAS the meanest fish I had at the time. Good Score Darcy! dunl
Albert, any suggestions on tankmates? With their agression levels, I was thinking he might look really good in with some mbunas - should be bale to easily handle them once he grows. albert_dao
No man, don't toss him in with Mbunas. Nicholsii develope VERY long ventral fins and it would be a waste to let mbuna hip them away. I was doing fine with Synodontis and loaches. Make him your centerpiece, you won't regret it. dunl
Sounds good to me. Got any pictures of them? Anything I have found doesn't seem to be much more than a very young adult....

johnsmith
Just a note: if anyone in Calgary's been inspired to pick up a couple they're for sale at Tanks Alot. I don't remember the price but they're not expensive. I would have got a couple but they sound a little too aggresive for what would have been their tank. There was a male coloured up and looking as good as this guy but I'm not sure if he's still there. Nice looking fish.
dunl
From what I have read, they are more of a "cichlid-hobbyiest" fish. In other words, not very common to find, not extremely profitable to raise, but a really nice species to keep if you just like cichlids. Also not something that most people go looking for, and the ones that do - usually can't find them.
RD.
Darcy - did you get the female that was packing?
dunl
There were four that were holding, and I thought we had one, but I can't really tell right now. If it is, it's definately not the one that was busting at the seams. May have spit already, too.
