mharding4
I have a breeding colony of Otopharynz Lithobates that Jay gave me. I have a female with eggs in her mouth that I just noticed today! Hope they turn into fry! pretty excited!
Jayba
Cichlid fry are awesome. Fairly forgiving and large enough that they are easy to care for. I always fed frozen baby brine. I'd place it in a plastic tube down into the tank and leave it about 1cm from the tank bottom. Drop some frozen rine in the top and it would pile up fairly neatly in one place. They could just pig out. The rest of the time (until large enough for NLS grow) I would feed NLS wafers. Just let them pick away at them. Fun to watch these small perfect replicas of the adults grow. Have fun

mharding4
the males are really picking on each other for being a "friendlier" cichlid.. I put a bunch of plants and almost every ornament i could find.. any other hints?
Wingin' It
what's your male to female ratio?
mharding4
ummm....i think its 6f 3m? Its kinda hard to tell as they are still young and they take a while to get their color. I dont know, Jay? You member?
Wingin' It
I definately see 3 males in your last pic, maybe try removing one of the males...that way you give the other two males an extra female each to court. Or, since it is from lake Malawi, you could try overstocking the tank to reduce individual harassment.
Noodles
How big is the tank? you could put a powerhead in the tank to keep them busy, my trophs calmed right down when i put a big powerhead in my tank.
mharding4
hmmm..those are both really good ideas..

mharding4
I have about 10 or so Celebese rainbows... but they are quite a bit smaller... and i think they might get chased around or eaten if i put them in :S
Jayba
When you received them there was a dominant male and a sub dominant one. A third may be a bit too much for a small tank. Not enough real estate. You could sell a 1m 2 f trio. I would think that could fix up the problem. In a perfect world I would ditch one male, but that can be tough some times. Unless there is someone out there with an all male tank who wants him. But like Sheldon said, maybe start with a powerhead, if nothing else it will circulate water... mharding4
So I ended up distrupting my tank too much today and one of my females spit out her fry. Luckily she spit them out in a bucket! They no longer have eggs sacks and look like little fishies I have them in their own 10 gallon right now so hopefully they will make it. I read something about the gestational period for these fish is like 21 days? she has only had them for give or take about 8 days from what I am aware of. A couple other females have eggs too so I will have more fry coming by the looks of it! Here are some pictures! http://s1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh607/mharding4/Otopharynx%20Lithobates/ Edited July 11, 2012 by mharding4
