cerebus
I picked up a trio of Jewel Cichlids on a whim at the last ACE auction, and I've found them to be very skittish and antisocial fish. They're currently in a 20 gallon tank by themselves, and I'm thinking about moving them into my 90 gallon cichlid community tank where they might be more happy. I know Jewels can be pretty aggressive, but I'm not really having much luck finding specific compatability information for these fish. I figured I'd just list the occupants of my 90 gallon tank and hopefully somewhere here who is familiar with Jewels can tell me if they'll work out. Current 90 gallon occupants: 4 Electric Yellows 3 Blue Peacocks 3 Burundi Frontosa 2 Demasoni 3 Clown Loaches 2 Common Plecos Thanks, Steve
rahim101
I was at Gold aquariums yesterday and saw thier new display tank (the dig 300 gallon) and they had a mix of africans (Malawi and Tang) including peacocks, frontosa, mbuna and jewels. They don't seem to be having any problems. I would say that it would work, but be prepared to pull them out if it does not work. I can't see any problems with mix as long as the jewels are not fully grown or unless they are larger then the the rest of the proposed tank mates. RD.
If by chance your jewels pair off & decide to spawn, they will become hyper aggressive towards every other fish in your tank.
cerebus
Thanks guys. I'm planning to keep the 20 gallon running as a QT tank anyway, so I guess I'll give the jewels a chance in the big tank and see how they do. rahim101
How did it work out???
cerebus
So far so good. They're nowhere near as skittish now that they're in with the other cichlids, and I've seen no more aggression from them than from any of their other tankmates. I'm going to keep an eye on them, of course, but it seems like it's going to work out.
