kimak
Fellow ponders, What sorts of equipment seem to work to overwinter koi? I have heard opinions of de-icers, heaters, pumps to keep the surface open. What works, what doesn't? Kelly
jvision
I have had clients use large circulation pumps alone as well as in conjunction with trough heaters. If you're just going to use a pump, it would probably be a good idea to keep a hole open for gas exchange. Just pour some boiling water from a kettle over the dome when it freezes over and you'll be fine.
RevolutionBoas
We just use the pump from the filter. Basically like jvision says point it straight up and break the ice if it domes over. If its really cold we use a trough heater.
