FishBrain
I woke up this morning to find out that 1 of my apple snails was laying eggs. She deposited them onto the side of my tank, in the top corner. It was very neat to see, unfortunatly I could only watch for a few minutes before work and when I got home she was done. I will post a picture of the clutch in a day or so. Has anyone here been able to babies from them before? Did you move the clutch or just let nature take its course? I see many people on sites move their clutches. :ml: Edited September 23, 2005 by Canadbis
fatpuffer
If you don't mind having hundreds of babies in your tank...then u can leave it there. If not, move the clutch to another tank and just float it on a piece of styrofoam. Usually what happens is that the eggs hatch the babies for in the water. On the styrofoam, they can crawl out. Good luck. js
FishBrain
i think I will see what happens on their own, and if they dont turn out then i will move the next clutch
Tanker
It's a terribly long process... I have seen a clutch sit for two months and 'nothing' untill all of a sudden, it's empty. It will get dry and crusty, but the eggs 'inside' will survive just fine. Mom knew what she was doing when she layed them... as weird as it seems to us. FishBrain
I dont mind the wait at all tanker. It would be good for me to have to wait for something once in a while. I am just hoping they are fertile. I dont mind hundreds of them as I am sure any LFS would want them. Maybe even a couple people here will too. I assume it will be a LONG time before they would be ready to get sent out anyway. I have a pic now, will post it when I get home :ml:

FishBrain
UPDATE: On Sunday (the day of the auction) She laid another Clutch. This time it is 2-3 times the size of the other two!!!! Tuesday I noticed little broken spots on the first clutch and after a further exam. They are hatching. So far there have been 5 break out of their eggs and are eating the algae on the sides of the tank.   Daily you can see the eggs change to the dark spot and shortly after that they hatch. so cool so very cool :ml:
