Just One Fish?

You have a 5 gallon tank, and there is nothing in it. So before putting stuff in it like sand and water, what kind of fish would you put in it? ONLY ONE!!! Doesn't matter how hard they are to find. When I've decided on the fish, then I'll put important stuff like water in it :D

Anyone that says a Betta has to paypal me $2.

Is there some kind of dwarf ambush predator? Like a mini leaf fish? I'm boring... I just use my 5 gal tank for hatching and raising fry. Yours sounds like it could be exciting!

I don't think a pea puffer would be a good idea... They need space for exploration or they get bored and can basically die of boredom. They are frighteningly smart fish and one needs to keep them entertained for them to do well.

I would suggest a dwarf aquatic frog. They are pretty cool. Just make sure you don't get a clawed African frog. Look the same when little, one turns into a giant!

I was assuming they are putting such a small tank in an active area, I have my guys near the dining room table. I rearrange the decor every week. Granted I have 4 in a 35G tank but I got them all small and there is a ton of plants/hidey holes. So far no aggression other than a chase or two but no wounds or nipped fins.
