Driftwood
Anyone using moving bed filters? I am looking for a Canadian supplier of the media (K1, Hel-x or BioHome). Thanks
hkbialik
I've been looking at those and wondering if you really need to use those brand name media. Any small item that moved freely would work, would it not? Like plastic straws cut into little rings, or... anything, really. zoopkamol
K1 is neutrally buoyant in water i think. Only reason i see as for buying brand name. I played a bit with moving sand filter in a sump. Only issue i had was keeping sand in one area away from the pump. Very good bio filter if you can get working. walleyewhisperer
have you ever considered polypropylene tie strapping? I use it in 55 gallon barrels, it acts similar to a moving bed filter. I bought 6000 feet for roughly 100 bucks and it filled 3 x 55 gallons barrels.. works great in large applications
damtrees
I wonder if the plastic bio pellets they make for salt water would work I have only had my pellets running for a month but I expect to see some results soon but that's on my salt tank. cullymoto
I use purigen as a moving sand bed filter in my sump. Got plastic screen at 250 micron hole size, cut it larger than the sump and used silicone to secure it in place. Used two pieces of PVC pipe to hold it up. Added three by pass ports in case the mesh blocks up. Used rigid air line and poked holes in it to make a bubbler. When it needs recharged I just siphon the loose purigen into a "nut milk bag" and soak it in bleach etc. The picture is kind of crappy. Driftwood
Thanks for the info, Dactylo. I plan to convert a couple of my sponge filters and give this stuff a try.
