Oneiroid
I have heard and read that blue rams are one of the best and most polite dwarf cichlids you could keep in a community tank. But lately I have noticed advice against keeping them with certain other community fish - that they will pick at the eyes of corydoras, or nibble the fins of weather loaches. Can anyone verify this? Or can these fish normally be kept together?
Pop Eye
I have never had a problem with them picking on anyone!!! and i have had them with both of the fish you are talking about..
Vallisneria
When I had them they never bothered any of their tankmates. The worst thing that they did was the male chased the female a bit. Other then that they were as peaceful as can be.
Oneiroid
I thought that sounded kind of 'fishy'. I've kept apistos in almost all of my community tanks without complication, so I was very suspicious about these particular aggressions I've been hearing about the rams. Thanks Pop Eye and degrassi! Vallisneria
I"m sure there is cases of very aggressive rams but that wasn't my experience with them. Like most fish it probably depends on their personality. There is always a chance of getting a hyper aggresive one.
BlkWolfe
Model citizens in my experience, just fighting between pairs but no aggression against anything else
granitetanks
Different personalities aside, the only time you WILL see aggression to other fish is if the rams start to breed. Otherwise they are quite peacefull and a great addition to any tank.
Oneiroid
At the moment, I am breeding my rams, so they are in their own 10g. No other fish in the tank, but the male sure had it out with my hand when I pulled out the rock they laid their eggs on! I think they forgave me after a week or so
jvision
This reminds me.... I was in Sherwood Park yesterday, and stopped in at Family Pet Superstore. They had what they were calling WC ramirezi. Looked like gold rams, but more fiesty than most that I've seen. Would have bought some, but I already have full grown Bolivians in the tank I'd put 'em in.
