I just noticed the other day from a batch of fry that i have from my White Top Afra... there is one little guy that is half black from the middle of his body to the tip of his back fin.

I have see this in guppies for an example... but is this normal?

i'm only guessing that this is genetic (possible like an albino gene)...

but what should i do?

I'll see if i can post a picture for you all to see...

its quite weird!

I don't think its hybrid as the only fish that is of breeding capabilities in the tanks would be a male zebra or (and i doubt this one) an male yellow lab.

I have had to females spit in the last month and they both look the same as the ones that i got from cagary from Big Red... its just this one little guy.

Of course being something different my wife now loves the little guy and wants him for herself...

i'll take some pics tonight...

Its only that one...

I would say this little guy is 1 out of 80-100 fry that i have...

it will be interesting to see if i was to get another...

not sure what to think or do...

Can I have him?

sure for the small price of 100 billion dollars (i say that with my pinky next to the corner of my mouth. mohaa haa haa.)

Wow. I've never seen that happen before.

I've had a few hundred babies (and still have a pile) from that breeding group before I sold it to Nevin and never has that happened to me.

I can understand why your wife likes it, it's pretty cool. You will have to post picks as the little fella gets bigger.

You got it!

She already named it Tanker after ours truely. (She liked your post and reaction and the fact that you liked him rather than called him a hybrid).

I will post updates...

not too sure if i'm going to add him/her to the breeding stock in the future.

it may be cool as a side project to isolate the gene and create a new variant (kinda like albino fish).

we'll see if he makes it though!
