magic
Will the Altolamprologus compressiceps end up with unnatural coloration over time if vast amount of astaxanthin is introduce into their diet?
Froggie
Yes, Enough astaxanthin can cause a "pinkish hue" to appear in just about any fish.
RD.
I suppose that it's possible if 'massive' amounts of astaxanthin were fed to any species of fish.
dunl
You'd have to really be plugging it to them for that to happen, IMO. I was feeding massive amounts to my cichlids for a few months before starting NLS, so much that the pellets would give a bit of a red puff in the water while feeding. Not one of them turned "pinkish", including my red zebras.
albert_dao
Mine are still getting massive amounts of that stuff in their diets with the NLS. Normal coloration still present.
RD.
Albert - are you still using the astaxanthin that I sent you?
albert_dao
bahaha, yeah.
RD.
FYI - the expiry date on that Naturose was several months ago. If I was you, I'd toss it. Below are some pics of fish that were fed NLS that was laced with very heavy doses of Naturose astaxanthin, and there was no noticeable difference in color whatsoever. After several months on this special diet the person stopped coating the NLS with Naturose, and the fish all retained their color. Also, none of these fish became 'pinkish' or had any abnormal coloration when fed this heavy dose of astaxanthin. In other words, adding astaxanthin to NLS is a waste of time & money. albert_dao
Too late. I dumped the whole thing in ages ago. It was kept airtight if that counts for anything.
RD.
Air tight wouldn't help, expired is expired, and that lot of astaxanthin is way beyond its expiry date. What, you have a shortage of fresh food available to you? :chair:
