Mighty Prawn
The Python cleaner/vac for water changes etc... Can I get some info on it? Does it plug right into your sink? How does this affect water changes when adding all the chlorinated water without being able to first treat with declorinator? With 6 tanks now, being able to vacuum my substrate and change water without refilling 5 gallon water bottles over and over would be faaantastic. -Hideo
HOSStile
Here you go. Lees makes the same thing different colour others would say different quality. I use Lees because it was at the store when I wanted it. Or find a water bed drain and fill kit, probably getting harder to find. http://www.pythonproducts.com/nospill.htm
Golfnut
Hi, I use one straight from the tap, it works great for my two tanks, 77 gal and 50 gal. I had to replace the head unit recently as the old one cracked (old age?), but other than that it has paid itself off many times in TIME SAVINGS... Mighty Prawn
So it's okay to add tap water without first adding conditioner to an established tank? I thought the chlorine or something would destroy my existing bacteria. -Hideo
HOSStile
Most of us drain the water, add the appropriate amount of declorinator and fill the tank back up. Very little bacteria exists in the water, a much greater percentage of useful bacteria is in your filter material and your substrate. This is why you GENTLY rinse out your filter material in drained aquarium water, not in the sink.
Mighty Prawn
So what's the cheapest I can get? Gold's I'm guessing? -Hideo
RD.
I add my dechlorinator (pre-mixed in a jug) as I add my tap water. We have chloramine treated wtaer here, but even if we didn't I would still feel better adding dechlor as I refill.

Mbuna Ron
I have a 40 gall. plastic drum where I age my water and then I siphon it in my tanks. No chemicals whatsoever! The Python is great for cleaning the tank and draining water.
