Marella
My tank temp is 84F and I want to cool it down to 78-80F. I can't afford a chiller right now but wondering if anyone has any ideas on the best way to keep the water temp in this range.
jvision
Had the same problem yesterday. I managed to cool things down a couple degrees by keeping the lid open and agitating the water a bit more. A fan in the next room to keep the air circulated helped too.
TheGr8Blade
Having the same problem here...was at 85.2....now at 80.3. Took 3 days to come down...
Toirtis
Some tips for cooling tanks: 1. Turn off any tank lights, as they impart more heat than you might imagine. 2. Remove canopies/glass tops if you can (and do not have jumpy fish), as this will help dissipate heat. 3. Run a fan across the water surface. 4. Do mini-water changes (20%) a couple of times daily with water that is 10º-15ºF cooler than the tank water...add slowly, and allow it to mix well as you add it, so no cold spots occur. Now, you cannot do this with marine tanks, so the best option is to take some very clean 2L plactic pop bottles, fill them with water and freeze them solid, and immerse one in your tank (or better yet, sump) every couple of hours...this will only help by about a degree, but combined with the other things, it could drop temps as much as 3º overall, depending on the size of your tank.
