  1. If anyone knows where it is carried can you please let me know? Thanks
  2. Has anyone ever heard of this stuff. I was looking at the color supreme pellets for cichlids and I am intrigued. I have never seen it in stores though. http://www.dainichi.com/home.html

    Hello All

Welcome to A-A! Enjoy your stay :smokey:
  8. Heh, mine is always doing this too. For weeks I won't see him, and I will think "well he's dead cichlids musta killed him", but every time I end up finding him later in some bizarre hiding spot.
  9. I have some RCS as well. It may be that pH of 7.0 is slightly low for them if they were used to higher. (water in Alberta tends to be fairly hard generally). I had read somewhere that they prefer slightly harder water so that they can use the minerals in it to make their exoskeletons. (someone correct me if I am wrong). However, your water is not acidic so that should not be the problem unless it is an acclimation issue. I don't use aquarium salt in my rcs tank, but I am not convinced it would harm them, unless there was a lot of it. If you have ever used copper to treat your tank that could kill them. It is a common additive to many fish medicines as well as snail-killer. They are very sensitive to heavy metals. Water quality is also very important, I do 1-2 or more water changes a week on my rcs tank of 25%-50%, using treated tap water from the cold tap at room temp. (adding hot water form the tap ups the tds content in it and makes it that much more possible for more heavy metals etc. to be introduced that you don;t want) As long as you don't have ammonia/nitrate/nitrite present they should probably be alright. Also, if you are dosing plants with excel or some other fertilizer, stop using it, as it it contains nitrate. http://www.azgardens.com/shrimpfactory.php http://www.petshrimp.com/redcherryshrimp.html The following excerpt was taken from www. petshrimp.com, thank you to you for your information.

They love to sit in front on the driftwood, plants and on the filter outtake with their little fans out to feed. They have been housed with cardinals, congos, balas, various plecos, ottos, gouramis, gudgeons, etc. all with no problems.

Welcome to the boards Apryl! I am interested, what is the web site of the local reptile society you mentioned?
  12. Hoolies! I'm glad no one was seriously injured.
  13. M. digitata--it has come a long way since i got it--it used to be one white stick with brown polyps I don't remember what kind of coral this is... Really need to take a tweezer to that green junk that keeps trying to grow in it though. frogspawn grew more heads oooooh rics the xenia has grown so much!! Maybe I will post a fts shot some time, I dunno. I am embarassed about the green on my glass where I can't reach to clean it and all the ugly caulerpa and another type of algae (don't know what it is, kinda like sausage-bubble except when you leave it to grow long enough it has fine leave son it ...wierd :boxed: ) On the upside I seem to have kicked the majority of my bryopsis problem, yay! :smokey:
  14. That's encouraging, thanks Tanked! I would like to feed live foods, however there is not much available here for that. Just bbs at the stores. Suggestions? On another note, while gathering eggs yesterday I llooked in and saw 8 eyed up ones. I'm very excited. Hope I don't kill them. :boxed:
  15. It is quite possible that it could be caused by injury. Considering the "cotton-ball" thing, I would medicate them in a tank by themselves just to be sure they don't get a secondary infection of fungus, etc.
  16. I bought an aquaclear mini and set it to run on the side of the tank. It is set at the lowest setting. No problems at all with it. It might look a bit silly, but it is quiet, adjustable, good quality and does the job
  17. Sounds like a great tank! Post pics when you have them!!
  18. If it is not the impeller or the shaft, it may only be air in the system. Try tipping it around a bit while it is running to get the air out. I had a very noisy fluval 404, and could not figure out why. Turns out the plastic thing that holds the impeller and shaft in place was loose.
  19. I hate biowheels. IMO an aquaclear is a much better buy for a hob filter. Just an all 'round well made filter.
  20. I had a problem with surface scum in my cichlid tank when I first started it. All it took was redirecting the flow of the canister filter towards the surface. I also added a long air stone along the back (not a planted tank so I can get away with that, lol).
