  1. A little while ago I needed the same thing and they had one at Pisces. I'm not sure if the suction cup bracket is the same size on all models, you should probably take it in with you. I doubt they'll think you're stealing it. The guys who were in at Riverfront at the time didn't really know where to look to find it in their stock but based on the two places they looked they didn't have any in at the time.
  2. Does anyone know what the large fish is that's in the tank next to the beat up jags / convicts / pacus? It looks like some sort of Vieja. It's been there for quite a while.
  3. Since it seems all the cool people got apistos recently we might as well post them all together. Here's my guy. I got him at Gold's. If his tail had more colour on the bottom he'd be almost perfect. I can't get very clear pictures. I'd blame it on the camera but I've seen people take better pics with their camera phones so I guess I know what the problem is.
  4. That is a cool shot. I think they've lightened up a bit over there with their photo contest. There seems to be more room for pictures other than the professional profile shots that dominated a while ago.
  5. This topic raises a good point about my compaint with Stealth Heaters - they have no light to indicate when they're on. Sure they're trying to be stealthy so a light might be distracting, but the knob to change the temp is bright red, much more distracting than if a small light came on once in a while.
  6. In the past couple of days when I use Internet Explorer I have trouble using the "Back" button and whenever a page loads I hear a lot of clicks. Is it just my computer having problems?
  7. Thanks, that's reassuring. Now I can fill this thing up

    50w heater

Would a 50w heater be sufficient for a 25g tank? What if I put insulation on the back and on one of the sides? If not, does anyone have a 50w or 100w heater for sale in Calgary? thanks
  9. It used to be that anyone could sell stuff at the auction, has that changed?
  10. Here's what I do with my Python (that came out wrong ) Put one end in the bath tub Close off the gravel vac section and fill it with water from the tank making sure to get all the air out Put the gravel vac in the tank making sure not to collect any air Make sure the switch is below the water level then open it The water begins to drain out into the tub. The only problem with this method is that the suction isn't strong enough to get out the waste. I use a smaller hose and a bucket for that. HTH
  11. I'm pretty sure their fish are always on sale 30% or 2 for 1. At least, I've never been in that store and not seen those "sales". I know that doesn't really sound like a sale :shifty: , but I guess it's like buying gas in this city, there seems to always be the stated price plus an extra $0.035 off.
  12. This thread is almost a year old, how did you dig this one up?

    Noisy AC 300

I just leave the tops off. Still, the intake tube also starts vibrating once in a while so I have to puch it down a bit. A large elastic might help too.
  14. Apparently the ornatus and transcriptus are the smaller ones. I'm thinking of having a few transcriptus in with my brevis pair.
  15. It doesn't really make much of a difference but red jewels are actually african cichlids, they just aren't from the two big lakes. If two are teaming up against a third then those two have probably paired up, which means the third guy will have to be removed. If they've paired up then one is probably brighter red than the other. From what I've read these guys get really aggressive when they breed so they might start attacking your other fish once this initial threat is out of the way. On a positive note, they look really spectacular when they're breeding. Here's some info on them: Article Profile
  16. Yes, I'm pretty sure I've heard that clown loaches don't do well with ick treatments. Also, that Waste Control stuff produces a lot of Ammonia in your tank so you should always do a large water change the day after you use it. IMO it does more harm than good.
  17. I don't know how I missed this, but I didn't see this when it was first posted. What happened to the pictures, did they show up before?
  18. My tank gets a fair bit of natural daylight so is it necessary (read: best for their well-being) for me to have the tank lights on for 8 - 10 hours? I'd like to minimize the algae growth by only having the lights on for a couple hours at night. I don't have much algae now but even less would be better. This is for a tank with Green Terrors. Any thoughts?
  19. I like both the moss tanks. I only wish we could get something other than java moss around here.
  20. Does the sump or the tank have a chip in it?
  21. Is it okay to submerge an 802 powerhead? It looks like water would get inside via where the electrical cord goes into the top. Should I wait and fill the space with silicone?
  22. I seem to remember reading before that Lion's Cove II aren't really exported, rather, the ones we see with white bottoms are just lower quality due to inbreeding. Let's wait and see if I remember correctly...
  23. I stopped by again tonight and was told they are dovii. Their fry are getting big. Those guys are fast growers. I was surprised to see how many are actually left. The guy there said the fry are even starting to show attitude toward the other fish.
