  1. My Mato Grosso pleco died. I found his tiny body when I moved his coconut hut to do a water change. Then I found the body of his little friend Willy under the driftwood. I haven't been doing anything different. Wah, I hate dead fish. Then I was looking in my 60g and one of my albino Corycats is hovering near the top for unusual lengths of time and one of my swordtail fry is looking kinda sketchy. Aw crud.
  2. Awesome! Babies are always so fantastic.
  3. If you need tiny shells I could give you some baby aquatic snails. I usually crush 'em and feed them to the fish but I could try and figure out a way to "empty" the shells without breaking them.
  4. My bettas have always lived for a long time, despite where I bought them or my stunning ineptness at fishkeeping. Perhaps you have just had a run of bad luck? I hope things improve for you. Bettas are a rewarding fish to keep and I have loved all my violent little babies.
  5. Handsome fellow isn't he? I was hoping you would get him. I thought you would give him a happy home! I am glad he is so happy with you!
  6. Will my betta eat my cherry shrimp if I put him in the tank with him? It was his tank before the little usurpers came along. I feel so guilty keeping him in a breeding net in the fry tank.
  7. That's good to know, because when I first got into the hobby the death count was tremendous. First, I woke up to 10 neon tetras wrapped around the filter intake. (Still don't know why) Then ich. Then the lighting I had for the tank was wrong and it was heating it during the day so the temp was fluctuating too much. Then I rinsed my filter in tapwater. Then I got ich again. Then gill flukes. This is all within 6 months of starting to keep fish. Now I just pray to the aquarium god every day and I haven't had any deaths in over a month! I am far too hooked for such a neophyte.
  8. That's fantastic. You saltwater people are getting to me.
  9. I am using a Concord 2040 that boasts a whopping 2.0 megapixels. It came free with the computer. I am looking at getting a better one. The betta is now in one of the tanks, the vase thing did not work out for him.
  10. LOL My mother in law says the same thing about small children. (She teaches third grade)
  11. Aww, I had that happen when I first started keeping fish. I lost every fish in the tank. Sorry for your loss.
  12. Dazzling is more like it. The hermit crab is really cute!
  13. Aw, shucks. I just likes to help. I would like to see the tank all set up.
  14. I love the dinosaur. Does he frighten your crayfish when he goes on a rampage? Lovely tanks really, better than mine.
  15. Would shellies be okay in a community tank then? Other than eating the fry when one of my livebearers drops a batch? I have been reading up on shellies and are downright enchanted with them. I gotta have some.
  16. I have a large bunch of livebearer fry. I thought they were all swordtails until some of them started showing their true "spots". It seems that there are a few spotted platy fry mixed in with them. All of the fry are roughly the same age yet some of them are drastically larger than the others. I have heard that betta fry release a hormone that inhibits the growth of smaller fry. Do all fish do this? Should I be making daily water changes? Or is it that everything is okay and I am just a worry-wart? Another question, could I put shell dwellers in with 6 week old live bearer fry?
  17. I did enjoy very much! That is one fantastic lionfish!
  18. Cool tank I found this while stumbling around the net. I think it's pretty cool.
