  1. My understanding is that puffers are a no go, but relatively often you get some that work for a little while with plecos, otos, or birchers, KEY POINT "little while" eventually you'll be missing half a fish, not that i've lept these guys but have been trying to work a dwarf puffer tank into my current lineup
  2. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=44346 When I set up my pond, I looked for golden rudd but couldn't find anything, Pisces pet emporium has alot of different sized koi in now if you need something bigger,
  3. I bought four synodontis petricola last sunday and they are great definately hide a little but they are my first catfish and incredibly intresting
  4. http://www.aquamojo.com/pond.html Thats a neat indoor setup Something about the substrate too I read in a pond it is better to go with small rocks as a substrate over sand and gravel the space won't get anerobic and it can be easier to vancume stuff out of the larger spaces, It was some fish mag I got around easter
  5. I think you would see the fish, and btw SA's would make a much better choice because they'll keep the pond cleaner we have tonnes of earthworms that crawl into the pond and before the goldfish got in it was a mess, while SA's would take care of this alot better I have seen a lot of indoor pond pics and there wouldn't be too different you can definately see the fish and these are useing black liners, If you have a problem I think a underwatter light could fix that without to much expense
  6. Well I havent compared them but in any case there is a general consesus that the eheim is always better, it's just what your willing to pay because the xp3 will also do the trick Powerheads not only eliminated deadspots but the increase circulation will add to your bioload by utilizeing other surface areas more efficiently, the main value I see is mechanical if you can blow alot the crap in to your cannister you'll have a much cleaner tank
  7. What I would do is the 2217 you already have and another big canister filter(Ehiem 2217, 2215, 2028, xp3, maybe even 404) and powerhead or fluval plus, and the 2213 saved for something else But you have so many options and it is whatever you want use for min, your two ehiems would be fine but not great maybe add a powerhead cause you'd be pushing it Also the xp's are a great deal bang for the buck, while it doesn't seem worth it to only buy another 2213 that can only run 65 gallons, go 2115 and up for an ehiem or some other company
  8. why does it say guest? That was me if anyone cares
  9. So I have a small 300 gallon plus pond probally 330ish, was setup last year, there are three remaining goldfish of seven(grandma took care of the pond for a weekend and a couple died), filtraion is only a 300 gallon pump with small bioball and sponge prefilter, watter falling back into the pond. We had major problems last year with clarity in the pond a most of it algae and a little of it dirt, ended up doing 50% watter changes once a month so we could see the fish for a few days, but thats just the start and really plan on improveing it this year with any help from everyone here. So questions 1. Is 300 gph enough for my 300+ gallon pond? 2. Is my filtration adequate? 3. would a uv be worth the cash to add for clarity? 4. We were considering a $400ish pond filter with uv at pisces but not sure if it's. necesary and don't like the price, some alternatives or suggestions for filtration? 5.The pond is empty in terms of decor should something be added? 6.Are plants beneficial necesary? do you like them? (would have to be floating, didn't leave any place to plant em) 7.Could the goldfish fry between half an inch and three inches go in the pond with the full sized adult goldies(long tailed comets)? 8.When are you setting up your ponds? thanks for anything you can help with
  10. they can be bred in the aquarium, mostly by acident though
  11. Use wood for four faces top open(as normal) and the front glass or acrylic
  12. I think they are brackish I don't think there is such a thing as true freshwatter moray eels, and the brackish ones are usually named freshwatter or snowflake, Havent seen them but if your intrested somebody at the store would obviously know what there in
  13. Mine is in with some whiteclouds and some adfs, African Dwarf Frogs are great and the betta spends most of it' time just watching them I hear they can go with anything that isn't to nippy I've heard of a betta in with bala sharks not sure how long thw guy kept it up buy it shows they are easily compatible with many fish unlike some souces suggest

I really think my 50 foot was a waste of money, considering all i use it for now is the hose, I had read about the diy versions but wasn't sure I trusted it all that well assumed they had to be more complicated then that but they aren't do what everyone else said, buy yourself just a cheap normal hose and the starterthingy which I don't use anyways can be bought at a petland, gravel vac which i don't use either can just be an old one shoved inside your hose
  18. http://www.scotcat.com/articles/article25.htm http://www.scotcat.com/articles/article30.htm These seem like pretty good sources too me and what I was refering too, but it seems incredibly rare for them too spawn unless you intend it and one or two spawns of petricola would seem much more rewarding to me then continuese cichlids, Unless they could be expoected to interfere in another wway, synos peeping ruin the mood :hey: ?
  19. Update I guess for anyyone else- was at riverfront today, and they have the same kind in a lot of their tanks turns out I had put mine upside down but My amonia and nitrates have been fine and all fry healthy and alive
  20. From what i've read they have been captive bred similar to the multis, but also as egg scaterers
  21. I noticed lately that fluidized bed filters aren't as expensive as I thought it might be something to look into one of these and a canister with high flow rate like xp3 and you would be good for sure. I'm just kinda intrested in how well the beds work that mostly why I suggest it there are cheaper alternatives, Sounds like you gonan need a canister otherwise and the general breakdown can be considered as Ehiem top notch and worth the money, all around best, both classic and professional are top standard canisters The fluval is a cheap copy of the ehiem, it is similarily quite and maintains similar efficient design but made of cheaper parts which are less reliable and more frustrateing Rena offers a good medium, It is reliable and efficient but is suposed to be noisier and just can't equal ehiem excellence Though all I have is a fluval 403 (<-not sugested)
  22. I have maylandia lombardoi, melanchromis johanni, and p. elongatus. I also tend to have what i assume to be hair algae in the tank there is a good coat of brown algae (ithink) on the rocks but a pleco won't eat this either from what i know. And like I said if I see to much algae I cut back on there feeding, don't keep demasoni either though
  23. I've never seen this before but it sounds awesome do you have link with example
  24. Absolutely amazing, how longs that take to build?
  25. Mbuan take care of most algae pretty fast and an algae magnet or brush really isn't that hard to use to finish it off on the glass i wouldn't bother with the algae eater doesn't seem necesary my tank sits in direct sunlight almost the entire day and all i do is feed a litle less food if there is too much on the rocks and scrape the glass once a week and mix up the sand alittle
