  1. You can buy/rent little "skateboards" to put under each corner. They will not work if you have stairs though. Is the tank going to be copletely empty? If so, four guys should be able to carry it. I personally woundn't stand it on the shortside but so far I have only moved a 120. Good luck Derek
  2. Well Boom if you have to know, I wanted to know mostly the agression in the tank. That being said, no one has commented on that! But I have found out that they are a docile fish. Also these fish I am buying are juvinelles and the fish room should be completed in summer. Then I will have lots of room and won't worry about compatibilty as I will have a 112, 2- 90s, 8- 50s, 5- 20s and 5-10 gallons. Thanks for your input though. Derek
  3. They willo only be in the 90 gallon temperarly until I get a few 50s running. Maybe only 2 months. And I would not keep any fry that happened to come along in the 90. I don't want hybrids!! Derek
  4. I want to introduce the Aulonocara maleri Sunshine Peacock to my 90 gallon. Will I run into any aggression or breeding issues? I have: 5 electric yellows- 3 m/2 f (5 more coming) 9 red empress - 2 m/ 7 f 7 electric blues-1 m/6 f (only 3 females capable of breeding) 9 petracolas 2 clown loach 4 bristle nose pleco 1 m/3 f and 1 L-333 pleco(some call it a King Tiger but technically there is no common name!) I want to add 5 Aulonocara maleri hopefully 1 m/4 f I know I would be overstocked but I am running a Eheim cannister for a 90 gal, a AC110 and 2 AC70. And I am doing 30% WC a week. Thanks for the input, Derek
  5. Thanks for the link. I compared some of the products with some I have around home and the prices seem very fair on most of the product. Derek
  6. I will confirm that a cichlid will such a new fry through those "nursuries". I watched my electric blue do it. Like mentioned before, put them in you fry tank or get the hard plastic units. Derek
  7. Personally I would run the two filters. If one happens to crap out on you at least you got time to replace one. If you only had one filter you only got hours. Same with heaters. Derek
  8. I got 4-BN plecos and a L-333 pleco in my tank. There is Electric Yellows and Electric Blues and Red Empress in there. I haven't had problems yet. Derek
  9. Thanks all, I think I am going to go with two smaller tanks with a low height and big foot print. I want to try my hand at a Amazon Biotope. Derek
  10. Thanks for the response jvision. I have been reading online and I think I know what I am going to do. Derek
  11. I was think of doing a pleco only tank. I currently have 4 L-333 tiger pecos 4 albino BN and 4 Reg BN. I want to buy mangos and a gold nuggets. From what I researched, I fond that they have similar water parameters, but different diets. They should be able to go in one tank. My question is, if I plan on breeding they , is it better to have speices only tanks? will they hybridize? Does any one else have a pleco only tank? I see some poeple recommend a dither fish in there, is that nessesary? Should I buff down the ph? any special decorations? I have a low custum tank it is 30"L x 14"D x 12"H, will that be better than a reg 50 gallon?? Any and all info would be great. Derek
  12. Those rattlers are ready to strike! I used to live in southern Alberta and I will confirm there is thousands of them there. I actually, accidently, got my face within 4 inches of one. He rattled, I screamed like a school girl and when I worked up enough courage to see if he was still there, he had left. Good thing there was a metal floor grating between us!!! Derek
  13. My EB aren't overly aggressive and I don't think it would be to hard to net. There is only a piece of driftwood and a clay pot with some plastic plants. So netting them should be relatively simple. They are at that size when a person is unsure if they can go in with the big fish or if they will do damage to they pleco fry. I might take a chance and move them, keeping dad and babies in the original tank. Lets say the eggs are about 2 days old, can I wait a bit to try and maximize the growth of the Blues then move them next weekend?? Thanks Derek
  14. I have a 20 gallon fry tank of electric blue cichlids and to help with clean up I put a BN pleco. The other day I transferred an another pleco to this tank. Much to my suprise, I have got a cluster of eggs hanging from my driftwood with dad playing gaurd. Both plecos are about 1.75 inch and the cichlid fry are about 1.5+ inch. this is a bare bottom tank with little to no cover. My question is, should I move the cichlid juvies into my 90 gallon that should provide enough cover for the juvies? Or should I set up another tank to move the dad and driftwood to? I do have a 10 gallon and I should be able to find everything I need to start a cycled tank. I have extra filters on my 90 gallon that I can use the media out of. Or will the juvies even bother the babies? I should have about 8- 10 days before I see swimmers, is that enough time to set a tank up and have it somewhat stable for the babies?? Thanks for the advise, Derek P.S. Thanks Tbemis for making me move that pleco!!!
  15. You are welcome for those little fellas. They look to be really content. Enjoy them!!! Derek
  16. I would agree with pulling the male out. If you let the females settle in then re- introduce the male, the agression shouldn't be much of an issue. I don't know if this would work but what about more females??At least the aggression is spread to 6 or 7 instead of 3!! I can store your male or sell you some females! Storing is free as long as you waive the studding fees. Derek
  17. Hey, I have 3 different tanks with 3 different thermometers. I was having difficulty with my 15 gallon tank temperature. the thermometer that is stuck to the side wasn't reading so I took my thermometer out of the tank above it and it read 74 F, which is a liitle low. I turned up the heater abit and it went to 77 F. Curiousity got the best of me so I went and got my digital from the 90 gallon, which is running at 78.6 F, and put it in my 15gallon. It was reading 66 F on the digital but 76 on the manual. I then went to the 90 gallon and put the manual in there it was reading 88F. So I did a small experiment on all three tanks and came up with these results: Tank1- (90 gallon) 78 with digital and 88 with manual Tank 2- 15 gallon 66 with digital and 76 with manual Tank 3 15 gallon 67 with digital and 77 with manual With this being said, I know if the 90 gal was at 88F there would be cichlids, which I don't, at the top gasping for air unless I am really pumping air into the water. I do have a air stone ane a canister filter with a spray bar that causes some rippling of the water and I have 2 aquaclears that of course cause a ripple. This is still really hard to believe that the tank is that hot. My breeding has stopped and I haven't had a batch of fry in 3-4 months. With the digital running on batteries is it safe to assume that is the therometer that is most like wrong? Or can the manual one fail too? Derek
  18. Any of the rubber bins from Wal-mart will work. Rona and Home Depot have them too. You can even hang a filter on them if the fish are going to be in there awhile. I am going to be in the same situation when I put new flooring in. Maybe you could post some pics of the temperary tank?? Derek
  19. Looks good. That is a bow front right? I would say 6 elictric yellows would be fine in there,IMO. Derek
  20. I would have to agree with everyone so far. Two AC 300 is not enough. I am using an AC500(110), an AC300(70), and a canister rated for 75+ gallons. I also had an AC 200(50)?? cycling on that tank. The texas holey rock is nice to use instead of lava rock. It isn't as pokey. Slate is great. If you went to Burnco or any other gravel company, they could tell you which rock are aquarium safe. Besides, you can't afford to buy rocks from a local fish store. What do you have planned for a clean up crew??? I really like the synodontis petricola. Good luck with the tank!! Derek
  21. Looks good Lisa. How are those yellows and the petricolas doing?? Derek
  22. I am not in Lethbridge anymore but my dad swears by these guys. They are in the industrial area. Tropical Fish Imports - 403-380-4506 3805 9 Avenue North , Lethbridge , AB T1H 6G8 I know they got some cichlids and tropical fish. But I can't remember if there was salt. Derek
  23. Lana, I would say it depends on what else is in the tank. I see in your signature that you have two dolphins and two frontosa and a few other fish. I believe you would be alright for awhile because I know the dolphins are a slow grower and I am not too sure but I think the fronts are too. I am currently at about 1.75 inch of fish per gallon in my 90 gal. With that said , I am also doing 35% WC a week and running a canister good for 90 Gal a AquaClear 110 and a AC70. Cichlids can be overstocked to help control agression. As a rule it should be 1inch per gallon, with cichlids i would go about 1.5 in per gallon. Derek
  24. I helped my father move a 90 gal. by having 2- 45 gal drums and empting the water 5 gallons at a time to the truck. We left about 2 inches of water in and all the gravel and fish. You definately want two strong people to do this as four don't fit through doorway to good. The place we took from had no stairs , the new place had stairs. That was a little more difficult because you want the tank level as possible. I , myself have 2 -15 gallons on a stand on carpet. I moved those so I could get a nice piece of wood under them. I just waited until it was waterchange time and took 25% of the water out and me and the wife lifted it out of the way. Derek
