  1. I would say that any retailer who knowingly sells assorted peacocks, or who is very knowledgable, but tries to pass off completely yellow labs as line bred or those gross pale blue "Blue face haps", knows EXACTLY what they are doing. :guns:
  2. and sell them as wild caught.
  3. Just to pizz off RD, go with labs, but don't go with yellows.
  4. To me, that's too much blue, but that is my personal preference. Maybe swap the Undus for Maleri or Rubescens, or add in a gentle mbuna like the yellow labs. That being said, it's all personal preference.
  5. You mean the same fish, when they were fry at three weeks, right?
  6. You'll notice that I have a Labidochromis freibergi in my avatar. The females are grey. Labidochromis mbamba males are completely different in colour, purple with yellow topped dorsal fins. Yet put in the same tank, the grey freibergi female will spawn with both, no questions asked. I had to put a mbamba male in my freibergi tank on a timeout one time, and I noticed a female spawning, taking turns circling with each male. Trust me, they will probably crossbreed. I have three lab species....all in separate tanks.
  7. I would never put three different species of a genus in the same tank as breeding colonies. The males will possibly mate will any of the females....
  8. Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos - great fish. Used to have some, lost them due to an ammonia spike two years ago...
  9. Fishy, any chance of getting some filter media from someone to help the cycle along, or are you wanting to do the cycle with the fish? Either way works, just a preference.
  10. A lot of work, and maybe anal retentive, but I would completely disassemble the whole side and reassemble for peace of mind. And probably the whole thing if I was really worried.
  11. Here's my best solution for you: Go to www.cichlid-forum.com, and click on the discussion link. Once on the forums page, click search, and type in resealing. There are currently 45 different threads concerning resealing. The DIY forum there also has a great sticky on silicone for aquarium use. I've never done it myself before, but in a nutshell, you split the silicone with a razor blade, take off all the old stuff, clean the glass with acetone, and then seal it back up with new silicone. I can't really see it being that hard. For a 75 gallon, I would take probably four or five stabs at doing it, considering the cost of resealing versus purchasing a new one. Second best solution: when you are frustrated enough to give the tank away free, call me. :hey: Good luck with it - know you can handle this. Dunl
  12. I hope you weren't burned on those as well......
  13. Okay, I'm officially creeped out, and I mean that as the best compliment possible.
  14. Best of luck with her, Val.....
  15. Perhaps he means the moderators who kept deleting posts because they didn't agree with them. Or gee, maybe it's me. After all, I've made negative comments about Gold Aquarium before, and that seems to be a faux pas. Dunl :shifty:
  16. I'll second that motion. I've PM'd Jay before when certain topics started to blow up, and to this day, I have no idea what his opinon was, except that it was impartial, as any good admin should be. With the amount of biased opinions I've seen from certain moderators on here, it's only fair to members to have Jay decide on permanent banning.
  17. In all honesty, this looks like a witch hunt to me. People are complaining about a certain member, so with not enough evidence to back it up, let's put a poll to the members and ask them to create a majority to boot this member. Just what would specifically be called disruptive? Having a different opinion? And do we want all the members to have different opinons of disruptive and be voting on it? Let's say I decide that I don't like someone on this board, and suddenly, to my joy, there is a poll asking if we should ban this member. Whatdaya think I'm going to say? If you aren't sure about banning someone, perhaps some guidelines for moderators should be put in place. Including what exactly should be considered for banning..... JMO, Dunl
  18. Definately not a Labidochromis mbamba, female or male. Looks like it is from the elongatus complex to me as well.

    Hello

    Welcome from Sylvan Lake.....
  20. I agree with that comment. I'm sorry, but if you don't know when a member should be banned, stop moderating. Sure, post for advice, ask the admin in the beginning, but after a while, you should know what is acceptable and what is not.
  21. There's really no problem with keeping hybrids if you don't release them into the hobby. Freshmike has one of the nicest looking hybrids I have ever seen, for example. But Freshmike isn't selling them off to people as pure cichlids, like some retailers are.
  22. BTW, are these showing up in the Edmonton area as well?
  23. Well, yeah, you were pretty close. Think I would have been able to figure it out from that even if there wasn't a picture to go with it....
  24. Nope, you're thinking of different ones. Those ones looked exactly like yellow labs, except for the tangerine colour. They had nice black finnage, etc. The ones I am talking about were a solid yellow colour - no black whatsoever.
