  1. Or you can take pictures of him talking? :hey:
  2. Latin name is Enneacampus ansorgii I believe. Correct. They are also known as Red-nose Dwarf Pipefish.
  3. If you're intent on keeping discus, then be aware that Clown Loaches and their constant activity can be stressful to the discus, especially at night.
  4. Been out with your sailor friends again??? -roll-
  5. Those Corys are an actual species. I believe that when Vallisneria refers to the stripe she is refering to the dorsal edge of the glassfish. In the past, Corys used to get a big red dye spot on their caudal peduncle to make them " more attractive". I haven't seen one like that for a while now.
  6. Maximum aeration is achieved when the spraybar is at surface level with the holes pointed parallel to the surface. You can also greatly assist your periodic maintenance by positioning the spraybar at the end of the tank that your filter uptake is at. That way the current is pushed away from the spraybar along the surface towards the opposite end, and back along the bottom towards the uptake. Most of any of the larger grunge should then be deposited below the uptake, making siphoning easier. If your tank is lightly stocked as you say, then another filter or power head is not necessary.
  7. Noble idea! A.C.E. already has been doing just that for local schools for a couple of years now.
  8. The workshop is to train children in all aspects of the maintenance of aquaria, regardless of size and number. This should allow parents to spend more time enjoying their hobby and also free up more time to spend with their local aquariun society friends. It's too late for me, but I can see younger people benefiting.
  9. If you do have Tanganykan cichlids in the tank just know that they do come from a lake that has miminal circulation. They don't mind some circulation but shouldn't be battling a torrent on a constant basis.
  10. You have come up with your own solution. Add some appropriate size young of another species already familiar with NLS, and the rainbows will soon learn from watching the other species.
  11. The first pic is of C. armatus. The second is probably C. cf. julii, more pics might ensure better ID. I'm going from pics on planetcatfish.
  12. I just got back from visiting those places, and Fairy Lakes Discus, Sixth Ave.Tropicals, as well. Got to Oceans on Fri. evening, and the other 3 on Sat. morning. I agree with your assessment of Oceans and Aquaforest. I was also impressed with the selection of rare fish at Aquaforest. When I talked to them they said that they were going to add another stand of tanks for rare plecos. We were staying down the road from Oceans.
  13. I think everybody was very impressed and excited!
  14. Actually that breeder brought in a few shipments, as he did incur losses until he finally established his breeding colony. It was not a cheap proposition! I did obtain 10 young, raised them to adults only to discover that they were all males. When enough good breeders start being successful raising them, then the price may go down. As it is the Belo Monte dam will ensure that the species remains rare, expensive for the foreseeable future, and possibly extinct in the wild. This could mean that the only Zebras we see in the future will be CB. There is a petition to stop the dam on planetcatfish.org for those who wish to sign it. There is a legitimate breeding operation in Brazil who have an inventory of over 1000 young ready to move, but cannot move them due to the regulations on exporting them in place in Brazil at the moment. :grr:
  15. Of those paleatus are the easiest. Plus you won't need R/O water.
  16. This auction was a little longer than we normally have, probably due to a large number of donated items. Usually the auctions end around 4:00. And yes there were a lot of people there, even after a good portion of them left there were still more than 50 people there towards the end.
  17. The only bettas that I'm aware of are, you betta not say you're a Flames fan, you betta not say you're a Stampeder fan, etc. -roll- There may be a pair of Jenynsia onca in the auction!
  18. Everyone welcome to come peruse, eat, and buy. Only members are allowed to sell. Membership has many advantages and is only $25.00.
  19. female SB tex Please excuse the ignorance, but what is this?
  20. If you're interested in meeting Edmonton area fishkeepers you might be interested in coming to an Aquarium Club of Edmonton meeting or auction.
