  5. When my puffer had a bad case of fungus and cloudy eye, I used melafix and pimafix combination...took about two weeks but healed up nicely. I did water change every three days...more if I had the time. gl js
  6. Well, I was given a colony of mature cory cats, both peppered and bronze. There are approx. 15 of them with the ratio about 1 female per 3 males. I got the fish 5 or 6 days ago. I think a change in barometric pressure with a cold water change induced spawning. today, all the bronze cory laid eggs...i watched them for a while and they were in a frenzy! I separated the eggs using a sharp edge knife. The peppered cory were eating the eggs, thus the need of separating them. now what can i do to get them to hatch? i have a sponge filter in the temp. egg tank right now. thanks...js
  7. dwarf puffers are 200 aus dollars a piece...400 bucks for a pair!!! she should've smuggled dwarf puffs...one bag would fit a lot! and no splashing...lol... js
  8. You will need liverocks and a skimmer. I think your tank has a pretty descent mechanical filtration. Bio filtration will be from the liverocks. how big is the tank? some corals and such need specialized lighting. i am pretty sure someone with more knowledge will be answer ur questions. js
  9. I'd guess snail eggs...very similar to ramshorn clutches.

  15. Thanks NEV! discomed is actually in a capsule for and you can break the capsule to get the powder inside...put some of the powder in a bit of water and soak your food and feed... well, my puffers seems to be putting on some weight...he does not look so skinny anymore. but if anybody out there finds some discomed, praziquantel, levamisole please pm me or tell us here in the forum. i will be taking my cat to the vet soon, so i will ask the vet how much prazi are. thanks again....js
  16. Each puffers have their own personality. One cannot generalize the temperament based on other people's previous experience. So my answer for that is maybe; you can try it but you may likely have casualties. Fig. 8 are low end brackish fish (sg 1.005ish). they can tolerate freshwater but are more susceptible to ich, parasites, etc. Their life span is cut drastically in half. For example, a puffer keeper of more that 40 years experience, kept fig 8 in both brac and fw. The results were that the fig. 8 lived for about 8 years or so on average and the brac water fish lived for more that 10 years...on average. His oldest was 18 years old. So you you want to have the happiest fat, active puffer, go for the brackish condition. OR you can go for a c. asellus or south american puffer. similar to fig 8 except that it is truly a fw fish. like many other reports, some say they can keep them in a community setting, other not. good luck with your puffs. js
  17. Hello all. I have been searching for quite a while now for discomed...i used to use it for internal parasite. But after few months and lots of internet searches, nothing!! Does anybody know any store that still sells it? there is a discus de-wormer from big al's, but did not see the active ingredients...anybody know what is the active ingredient (it is similar to discomed package but all black). i am looking for meds with praziquantel or levamisole in them. I saw some medicated flakes from petsmart, so another question is : can i crush the flakes and soak my food ? would that work? btw it is for a milk spotted puffer (c. patoca), but other forum said it is a t. oblongus, anyways it is highly brac to marine fish...currently apprx. 1 inch in fw. dr. ebert (puff book) stated they do well in fw as juvies and just increase the salinity as they get older. i am so sorry for the long post.... thanx in advance...js edit: he or she is a recent purchase ( couple days or so) and the tummy goes flat pretty fast and this would be a prophylactic measure since i am not positive of parasite yet. THANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKSTHANKS
  18. anybody know where i can get marine salt (big tubs size) for the cheapest price? thankx...js

  21. i have a course sponge at the very bottom, and bioballs in the middle and bioballs and fine sponge on top. gl js
  22. yeah they may try to...just pour hot water...go outside where it will not stink up the place. boiling should kill any bacteria that is causing the odour. if not, does it still stink under water? good luck... js
  23. I really like my rena xp3...has three baskets...for mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. i use it mainly for mechanical and biological. I find it fairly quiet and dont need to re-prime after each time i clean it. I find it easier to install as well. this is my experience as for now. I have never tried fluval or eheim. if money is not an issue, go for an eheim...pretty much the gold standard of canister filters. js
  24. get a crayfish and let it finish him or her off...or pour scaulding hot water and the meat would just slide right off...just like escargot...lol js
  25. i have an xp3 and HOB in my 40 gallon...there is no such thing as overfiltration...
