  4. We tried to find Gold's when we first arrived a couple of weeks ago. We are not familiar with Calgary and still just getting lost a lot. Anyway, we would up in some very industrial area and couldn't find the store. Any hints as to how to get there? We're coming from just outside the city, west on the Trans Canada. 17th ave SE. It is hard to see as there is a tree right in front of there store. It is in a shopping plasa and there is a pizza hut right on the corner. I had trouble finding them the frist time also Can not remember the whole address. but if you phone they will help you out. Well worth the effort.
  5. have 2- 403, - 1-404 and 1 405 running. have never had a problem with them. Priming can sometimes take a bit of work , but they have never let me down yet. Have 4 FX5,s running . they are great.
  6. I see one alot like this in a pet store in 100 Mile House BC about two weeks ago. The same kind of filter material in it , just a bit bigger. They found that the filters would plug off fast and they were forever cleaning or replacing them. It is just way to fine and plugs off fast.
  7. Wow Big shark. But anyways welcome to Alberta and good luck with your move. Let us know how you make out.
  8. Aww come on..leave the cowboys out of it...lol After all cowboys don't ride fish...lol Ever hear of a broke back cichlid...lol Sorry had to do it...lol

  11. Why do you not just sell them fish and buy new when you get here. That is a big risk and I hope they all make it. Frank
  12. Good old play sand. Never had a problem with it. And lots of MT. snails
  13. Sorry no pic,s of the buffalo heads yet. That will be a hard one to do. They stay in there rocks most of the time. Hoping as they bigger they will be out more.
  14. Thank you everyone. Yes they take a bit of work but I love doing it. Use the old FX5 water changing system. Does not take long . Slow part is filling. All tanks get 40 to 50 % per week. The big tanks get it twice a week In my spare time I haul horses, cut grass ,cut some more grass , haul some more horses and if there is any time left, then I will cut grass..lol I guy needs a life and what better life is there..lol Got to run . Have some grass to cut.
  15. Thats my baby...lol He is looking good. How big is he now??
  16. I don't think the valva on the output is meant to be for flow control. I would think if you cut back on your output with the valve you will just make your motor work harder and maybe cause a few other problems. I have heard of people running FX5,s on 33 gal tanks also
  17. Lets see everyones big wood. Hers mine. Had to cut about 6 inches off the top to get it to fit in my 240 gal. It is about 3 feet long.
  18. I fine a pair of tile cutter pliers work good for cutting clay pots I have broken so many trying to chip away with the old hammer . Then a file or hoof rasp to smoothdown the rough parts and give it a nice rounded edge.
  19. The orange one gets a double WOOOOOO HOOOO Very nice.
  20. When ever mine have gotton to big , I always just give them away. Some have been over the 15 inch mark. They are hard to get rid of. People with ponds are the best ones to try and give them to.
  21. I got lucky and picked mine out of a group at the lfs. They looked like they were mated up and it worked out. I,m not sure as I only had the two weather or the male will mate with other females in the tank. I kinda think they will and I,m sure others on here will help us out with that answer.
  22. It will not take them long..lol. I only had 1 female and could not keep up to the fry..I lost my female a few months back so I,m getting a bit of a break from them. My male is closed to 6 inches and very nice. I will get him a new girl someday. Have 5 of his fry in a 80 gal and they are doing great and showing good color. have to get rid of them soon before they start to breed. Also ( you most likely know this already) take your female out of the tank when she is holding. He will beat her up and will eat the fry. And that way you can give her a bit of a break also. You are going to love watching these guys. The females are just great mothers.
