  1. I agree.. Why ?? Do you not worry about blowing a hose off?? I see no clamps on your hoses. . I clamp all of mine just to be safe. Or can I just not see them in the picture.
  2. Yes they can breed at that size.Mine were no bigger than that when they had there frist batch. They are fun to watch and the males are awsum when full grown and all colored up. Enjoy them they are great.
  3. I used the shims that you can get for installing door frames on my 240 gal. Just start them under the stand and then hammer them in a little at a time till the tank is level. What ever is left sticking out can be just broke off. Get the hard plastic ones not the wood kind. You do not even have to drain all the water.
  4. Very nice. This pond is great. I,m glad I got to see it in person.

    Severums

Yes forgot to add that..lol They like their green stuff. I added a picture to my last post. That is a 10 inch pot that she is in front of. I think a 55 may be a bit small for a 4 inch unless it was by itself.

    Severums

They are very peaceful. with most fish except when they are mating. than it can be a different story as with alot of fish. I have kept mine with all kinds of cichlids and never had a problem. A 55 may due for now if they are small but they can grow to about 10 inches and will need a bigger tank. They are great fish and really become big pets. Good luck. If you see a fair size male around let me know. Need a gold male. Here a pictureof my female for you.

    FX5 Filter clean

You will notice on the FX5 when the foam is dirty it will stat to blow air bubbles. When I see this I always clean them.
  8. Don't know how long they hang , but the male should be showing his to when they are about to spawn. Watch my mpimbwe spawn last week, then make the big mistake that night of feeding the tank. She was holing till then. Have read that a person should not feed the tank fo a few days when a female is holding , looks like they were right.
  9. Biggest I got is a 240 gal.Picking up a 230 this weekend. If you put them together it is ober 400 gal...lol
  10. Why don't we just poor straight salt on him. Or maybe poor gas on him and them use the lighter. What ever it takes , just don,t break the log. What ever works Man some people...lol
  11. Mine are also showing red . think it is normal
  12. I use the Korilias by Hydor #4 on my 180 and the 240 gal. The are great i think. Got them at Golds. I think they were $59.00 each.

    my pond

Do you have more pictures? What are you doing for a filter.? Where are you getting your liner from? Sorry for all the Questions, but thinking of doing this myself. Want to put one in my shop. Thanks
  14. Had this happen also. Finally and carefully cut the log apart to get him out. But than the log is garbage.
  15. Most months it is just Estimated. In about Jan. they come out and read the meters and ouch, here comes the big bill..lol Like I said our's was over $800.00 , but we live in the country and do have animals to look after. Also we know that Jan. will be a big bill so we try to prepay ahead so it is not such a big shock to the bank account. Also jan was alot colder it seem to me . So more power was used. Also found that when a water tank gets low on water and the stock heater is hanging in mid air they tend to really eat up the power. Heck they will even get so hot that they will burn up. Lesson here is , Always check, Kids do not always do as they say.. But they were right , the horses still had water.
  16. Female Kenyi. Females stay blue and have black Stripes. Looks like a male and female to me.
  17. Thats great Dwayne. Thank you . After getting a $800.00 plus bill in jan. the wife was saying it was all my tanks that were costing us so much. After checking things out we found out that the stock heaters in the outside water tanks are real power eaters. Also the cords that are left pluged in when we drive away are also still eating up the power even when not pluged into a car or truck. Best to unplug them from the outlet also. So this really helps the cause. Also shows that I was right went I sold all the small thanks and started getting bigger tanks. Bigger is cheaper..lol also summer is coming so the heaters will be off most of the time . It is amazing how much heat my tanks put out. we have infloor heat in the basement and it is shut off all the time because it is so warm down there from the tanks. And warm air rises so this should help heat the upstairs somewhat. In the summer and even now I have to check the heat in the tanks every day to make sure they do not get to warm. In the heat waves of summer I sometimes have to shut the heaters right off.

    HOWDY!

:welcome: :welcome: To a great site.
  19. Here at work it is not bad, but at home we have only dail up as we live in the country ,and it takes forever to download now. I hope there is one person that the money can be sent too. Would make it easy and than we would know the total raised.
  20. Nice. What kind of Fronts are they??
  21. Okay it may be my screw up here. Let me ask you people , when you feed Zucchini how do you prepare it. Do you peal it and remove the seeds. I wash mine under warm water and dry it then I cut it up with the peal still on. from what i seen tonight maybe I should remove the peal. They do not eat the seeds and these are getting sucked into the filter. May there is still poison or chemicals in the peal that is causing this. I took out about 50 dead fry tonight. Out of the 170 fry there is about 50 left. I took everything out of the tank but the sand and did a 30% water change. Also vacumed the sand. Any that are left tomorrow i will move to a different tank and see what happens. Thanks again for all your help. Frank
  22. They are dieing everyday. Last night I took out 15 and this morning I counted ten or 12 more. And yes it is just the BN fry. All others are good.
  23. Thanks for the info . As for trouble with fry before. These are my frist BN fry. All other fry that I have raised I have never had trouble with. As for move related stress: When they are moved from the breeding tank, I move, fry and dad in there cave to a 29 gal. I leave dad and the cave there till the fry all come out and than move dad and the cave back . The ones that are dieing now were moved to a fifty gal about 6 weeks ago from the 29 gal. So they have been in this tank for about six weeks and the die off started last Fri. Running a Fulval 404 filter . This should be enough flow, I hope. Been doing about a 40% w/c once a week . Cleaned the filter this weekend. Put in new Bio carb and foam but did not rinse out anything else. Don't think the water has ever been checked for chemical composition. I will have to try and get it checked. Should I do more W/C,s . I think I will move them and clean out the tank and try it bare bottom. Thanks again everyone.
  24. Okay heres a long story. And I need all the help you can give me. I have lost about 200 fry in the last month. Just cannot find the problem. Water test. Maybe I'm not reading them wrong Nitrite- 0.1 Nitrate- Between 5 and 10 Ammonia- 0 PH- 8.6. Well water and they breed in this and all other fish are find. They just keep dieing.. Silk plants- removed . see the ink or what ever they use disappearing off the leaves Temp- 80 degrees Other fish all removed. Maybe to much light. Reaching here. Feeding - NLS and Zucchini Have done w/c- 40 to 50 % Cleaned filters. Changed tanks. Boiled all nets. And they are still dieing. Two different tanks Any ideas. Thanks
