  3. as far as fish for a 25 or 33 gallon a great starter is the damsel. It is one of the cheapest sw fish and is very hardy. They also have lots of personality and color.

  10. I have a 150 and a 300 on my 33 gallon. the impeller actually stops rotating and I am finding nothing in the magnet\impeller. the magnet seems to "stick" when you try and put it back in the "slot" and has no free movement. quite possibly sand... will just have to clean it more often.
  11. does anybody know how to make aquaclears salt friendly? I have two running on my 33 gallon salt and the impellers keep getting all clogged up with what I expect is salt. Any suggestions would be great........ thanx, hb

  14. Does anybody have any suggestions for getting an aiptasia problem under control? So far I've come up with a syringe and lemon juice, or a copperband butterfly fish. I know that you can't remove them by hand because they just seed worse from handling them. The are starting to get out of hand , just looking for some ideas...........
  15. A friend of mine picked up one of the salt water tanks from the fish pond(Jack). It is about a 30 gallon and came with about 20 pounds of live rock and an internal filter. He removed the existing substrate, put in argonite and put in 80% new water with 20% "live" water. He also left all the existing filter material in the filter. He used 2 chromis and 2 perc's to cycle the tank. but.... not too long after the fish were introduced (3 weeks) they stopped eating and eventually died. Any ideas anyone........??? also looking for a fix. thanx, Har
  16. seems like a brilliant idea , very interested to see pics.
  17. Last monday I went to family pet store in sherwood park and bought a Large percula clown and a Long Tentacle Anemone that it was paired with and introduced them to my 33 gallon . Two days later I lost the clown and that night I noticed a kind of Haze on my boxfish and bigwhite spots on him. I also noticed one dead damsel. The next morning the boxfish was dead ! I only have one damsel left as far as fish go. I am thinking it was a fish parasite because I never lose fish( except for the moving accident) and the anemone and the rest of the inverts are fine. the shrimp is fine as well. I am severly disapointed in Family Pet Centre and will never by livestock from there again. I phoned and asked and apparently all there marine tanks are filtered seperatly and not on one large system. I try to practice very little chemical usage in my tanks so I am looking for suggestions on how to clear this up. I am going to get on a big water change tommorow and just wondering if I should medicate (don't like to) or what else. ahh, the joys of marine (no guarantee). any suggestions from past expierences would be great. Thanx
  18. Aquaclear 500 with a refugium retrofit?? Please elaborate, sounds very interesting!!

  20. it is the only invert that I have trouble with and they are so common. I know nothing else in my tanks starve, but who knows............. tricky buggers!
  21. Does anyone have expierence keeping large feather dusters? I have lost 2 now, one in each tank, and I am wondering if there is something that I am missing.......

  23. Jack at the fish pond has a little rock left, And at $5 a pound it might be worth the trip. You must hurry though as he has sold the place and will not be there for long.
  24. I think PATIENCE is as much of an issue as money!!!! very underrated when it comes to reefkeeping.
