    Hello all :D

    Welcome to the forum.
  2. It all depends on what your setup is like or what your plans for a setup are; i.e. low light / low tech or high tech. What type of light are you running, do you know how many watts per gallon, are you running CO2 (DIY or other)? If you could give as much information as you have it would make it easier for someone to recommend plants. Here is a website that you could start with also: www.tropica.dk. Hope this helps as a start.
  3. I am no expert either but I agree with Davedude, by using RO water there are little buffering agents in the water. Test you KH because this is probably having a bearing on your pH. I am sure there are many people on the board that keep discus that can give you some more helpful advice.
  4. I think with mine it was a day to a couple of days. Once it starts and the leave opens, there will be a new one starting the next day. Hope this helps.
  5. I like nerite snails (zebra, olive, etc). BN Plecos.

    NEWB hello

:welcome: to the forum. There is lots of valuable information to be had on here. First of all, in my opinion, setting up a planted community tank, you probably want to go with some Central or South American Cichlids. A lot of the African Cichlids will probably tear up and / or uproot your plants. By the sounds of it some people have had luck with plants and cichlids, you can ask them for more info. Secondly, last night was the first time I ever heard about using a substrate heater. I ran a 20g planted / community with about 2-2.5 watts per gallon, a DIY CO2 and laterite substrate and my plants did very well. Currently I am running a 70g planted / community with a little over 1 watt per gallon and just aquarium gravel. I have not used a substrate heater in either. I don't think it is something you need to spend money on (unless you want to try it out). I just use a regular heater for the aquarium. There are lots of people on here that know a lot about cichlids and plants, so check out the forum and feel free to ask questions. Once again welcome to the site.

    :welcome: aboard.
  11. Thanks for the congrats, very exciting and yes they are very small. I had no idea. They are sitting in my office (I work from home sometimes) right beside my desk, so when I am bored or stressed I stare into the tank and noticed what looked like eggs then after a few days they were gone. I just assumed they were eggs. This is new to me, basically I acquired six (3m / 3f) from another member. I bought some empty mystery snails from an lfs added sand and water, then voila! Nothing special that I know of.
  12. I noticed what appeared to be eggs in one of the shells a week and a half to two weeks ago. I have been staring into my tank hoping for a glimpse of baby fish. Today I finally noticed a few fish venturing to the edge of the shell. This is the first time that I have had fish spawn and have had the eggs hatch. It's pretty cool.
