  1. Hi there, Congrats on the fry. I'm not familiar with that variant of fish. CAN you post some pics?? Where are you located???
  2. Hi Tom, Are you keeping the rams in softer water. The water in Calgary is just too hard for those guys the thrive in. Gold's had a really nice batch of captive Calgary bred and raised ones that were suppose to have been a little more tolerant of the water here. Oh, by the way..... Great looking fish you all!!!!!
  3. I use the foam inserts from aqua clear 200. I use a pair of scissors to cut a hole in the middle and slip it over. Works great...I got the idea from Gold's as Dennis uses them on all his fry tanks!!!!!
  4. Once you go with Lake tang fishes, it's hard to turn back. I find them to be much more interesting and challenging then Lake Malawi fish and they have MUCh more personality. I have kept N.Brevis, N.occelatis, N.multies and Lepidiolamprologus hecqui all of them very different in keeping. The multies are really cool as you can keep soooo many of them in a small tank with out any problems!!!!!!
  5. It depends on what species you want to keep. With any of the julies, you will probably end up having a single pair in that size tank once the fish decide to pair off. for N. occelatus...you could end up with a trio (1 Male, 2 Females) if you have good barriers and break up the lines of sight. If you want N. Brevis...I think the best way would be a pair and they hide alot int he shells. The only ones I would recommend are either a colony of N. Multifasiatus OR N. similis as you can get away with having a nice sized colony that will tolerate multiple generations and broods. You could start off with 6-8 and in a few months end up with 30-40 of all sizes and they don't seem to hide in thier shells nearly as much....only to hide from a another fish or to breed.
  6. Hey Rudy, when are we going to see some pics of this new set up??? Sounds cool. Also, where did you get a tank with those dimensions???? 108 gallon long...was that a custom tank????
  7. I've sent Christian a PM. Hopefully he can help me out
  8. How do I go about to get them registered for the BAP award via CAS????
  9. Now you are prepared for the salousi fry that will be forthcoming soon!!!!!!
  10. That great to hear. Looks like you took my advice and went went with the hard plastic breeder basket!!! Good Luck with the fry. Whate were they again???
  11. No Pics yet as I striped them at 14 days and they are in a breeder basket in my main tank still with egg sac....Can't get a good pic but snap some shots as soon as I move them to thier own ten gallon tank!!!!! As for spawn size...too be honest, I'm not too sure. My neighbor use to breed them and use to get get spawns as high as 12-15. As this was her first successful spawn I am just happy to finally see some fry. I have raised these guys up from like 1" fry and I hope they will give me more and more fry as they get going here......
  12. Well it took a lot of patience and frustration....but finally my cyps have given me some fry. I am now the proud owner of 4 - 1/8th long baby cyps. Leptosoma "utinta's" ......And to think that I almost sold these guys!!!!!!! I hope to see a few of my other females hold in the neaqr future!!!!!
  13. Froggie: What kind of sand are you using in that tank??? Looks awesome!!!
  14. Did you screw the mdf directly to the metal stand???
  15. What is the lenth of you tank??? 4 foot, 5 foot or 6 foot.... I see that it is 120 gallon......
  16. It's worth the trip to Gold's. I believe a 90 Gallon with tops goes for around $190.00 ..... If you go into a custom tank IE: 100 gallon the price goes up to around $320.00 including glass tops. HTH
  17. Why don't you sit down with a tank and system builder and let his experience and knoledge as well as suggestions guide you in your project. I have a good Tank builder in mind if you are interested. He is the guys that designed Gold Aquariums newer salt section!!! PM me if you want more details

The fluval is suppose to be good for up to 40 gallons.

    Fluval 204

Well after a suck on the out put hose, the filter is now working hard cleaning my tank. On a side note, I have now used the Rena XP1 and the Fluval 204 and have the following remarks: - the rena was so much easier to get started then the Fluval - I am finding the that the fluval has a better set up for media - the fluval also seems to have a higher output and moves more water. - Fluval also seem to be quieter IN short...as it stands right now, I would recommend the Fluval 204 over the Rena XP1, but be prepared to be frustrated getting the thing going!!!!!
  20. I'd go pick up a breeder basket. I prefere using the plastic ones and using an airstone in them
  21. I have heard that sand blasting sand is somethings partially made from recycled glass. Not sure what percentage but might be worth looking into for those who use the stuff!!!!!

    Fluval 204

Nyasa: It plugged the filter in and gave the output spout a suck and it worked!!!!! Great tip...minus the water I swallowed as it came gushing out of the out spout!!!! :P

    Fluval 204

As the title says, I am having trouble getting my new Fluval 204 to start working. Just doesn't seem to want to prime!!!! Any ideas or suggestions???
  24. I went Hung's place to have a look and they are VERY poor and are covered in Black blotches...You can't consider them to be spots!!!!! Hung seems to think that it might be spreading to some of his other fish!!!!! I wonder if James would give you a credit for them as they are poor!!!!!
