You can put them in the 90 for now, just don't keep any fry that come from that tank there is a chance that all of the pseudotropheus can hybridize!!!! Just see how it works for now then, if the demasoni get out ouf hand, get rid of it!!!

You may have just answered the question you asked at the begining!!!! the toxins in the water are killing your fish, espessially in a 10 gallon tank where there can be only so much beneficial bacteria!!!!! Just keep up the water changes and they should be fine!!!

Did you check the levels in your tank: Ammonia, nitrate, and Nitrite ?????

could be from high ammonia. As said, I always have foan covering the intake. I hardly ever loose fry!!!!

For shells: I use gold mouth turbo snails shells...from the salt water tanks od snails that have passed on. they work great OR you can ouder some neothauma shells (the actual one from Lake Tang) for a price of $??? I moved this to the African cichlid section as most shellies come from Lake Tanganiyka with the exception of the Ps. Lanisticola from lake malawi..... I would recommed at least a 20 gallon long tank to able to have a few of a single species in the tank. A 10 gallon would be fine for say a pair of brevis or a trio of multis. But, unless you have a proven pair, you are better off with the 20 gallon tank so you can buy say 6 fish to start and weed out the outcasts and extra males. As for other fish in the same tank, some dwarf rainbows or danio would work but in a tank that size I would not recommend any other tangs!!!! You can goto any glass shops and have a piece cut for like $10-15 dollars plus the silicone ($4.99) plus the time and effort....you can get a new 33 gallon for like $40.00...Not worth the trouble of fixing!!!
