  1. no probs the site looks great I like the plant section with the descriptions and varieties there's lots to look at well done !!
  2. Hi welcome ... checked out your site looks good although when I clicked on the fish category all I could see available was pygmy cories. did i go to the wrong section cheers
  3. Cool !! I haven't had Bloodfins for years ... Let us know when your discus start breeding too
  4. Jay's right I'd follow his advice best of luck
  5. If you've seeded your new filtre with bio media from an existing filtre and you've done regular water changes then it just may have been stress... however it is unusual especially if all the water parametres are fine eg nitrates and ammonia etc. try seeding the new aquaclear by squeezing a "dirty" sponge or other filtre media into it and doing 20% water changes every 2-3 days what type of chlorine/chloramine remover are you using ?
  6. There is Aquagiant on the north side on 50st, they always have reasonably priced fish and supplies but lack in plants
  7. I totally agree !! try to eliminate the cause which is usually too much light or a nitrate problem is often the case as well
  8. yeah sometimes they seem to not be bothered by certain fish and other times they can't stand them. asian aros in particular are finicky. The SA silver aro at 10" sounds like a good tank mate for the peacock. and i'm sure the peacock won't mind sharing space with him either. My peacock bass has had no issues with any of the fish i've put in with her as long as they can't fit in her mouth lol I would have no problems putting them together which honestly is half the fun of fish keeping by trying different combinations and seeing what works. As long as no one seriously gets hurt and you have a back up plan if it doesn't work out then go for it. The only one I may be worried about eventually is that Red Tail Cat, those things are like vacuum cleaners with voracious appetites. Once he starts getting around 12" an up i'd think about finding him a new place to live as they've been known to try and stuff fish into their mouths not much smaller than they are. There's a you-tube video of a guy losing his clown knife to one that was close to the same size.
  9. In my case it was the other way around lol my gold crossback hated and I mean hated my peacock and have since moved it. how big is your Aro ? Silvers are usually good natured somewhat
  10. Beautiful !!!! pass the cigars would love to get one from you when they're ready ? unless they're spoken for would you PM a price ? cheers
  11. Nah that's how they were made in the 90's at that size I owned a few there's no prob cuz they arent very tall
  12. So many fish so little time !!

  13. That's great you've gotten some more and that they are digging around, a good sign for sure as snails will retreat under the gravel for apparent safety. How long have you had them and how long have you had your horde of snails? As you can tell I'm a snail hater from way back some people love them to stir up the gravel but I view them as out of control pests. I've even let loose some loaches and assasin snails into my sumps to clear them out of there too. As for no empty shells hmmm you should see them around unless the gravel is being stirred up and they get buried. i don't believe loaches ingest or crush the shells all they want is the soft centre of those tasty lil' tootsie pops.... and of course the only silly question is the one never asked I noticed you mentioned your fish seem to lose colour, a few things may cause this such as where is the tank situated; is there high traffic and bright sun on the tank, is your gravel really light coloured is there any protective cover by way of driftwood or fake plants. With some fish a bare tank and bright light will cause them to "wash" out. A natural setting relaxes them and allows their colours to show. A dark or black background can help as well. As for fish to suggest i think the ones you have are colourful enough you may want ot consider some cardinal tetras or bleeding heart tetras or even a few guppies to add some more colour depending on your tank size. But double check you set up to see if it needs tweaking, fish keeping is easy once you get the right mix of decorations and fish.
  14. peacock bass is no problem and rays are always a good bet too, you could try an Indo dat as well. check with Fairdeal about a Motoro Ray they're quite inexpensive
  15. curious what loaches you have ? it should be natural for clown loaches and zebra loaches to forage for snails. several types of botia will also eat lots of snails. most loaches are more active at night so they may do most of their snail hunting then. In my opinion you shouldnt have to not feed them to get them to eat snails. I think you may have to be a bit patient depending on how many snails are infesting the tank. 2 loaches depending on what kind may need a lot of time to make a dent on the population or you may consider increasing the number of specimens you have.Clowns and Zebras as well as Red Tail Botias do best in groups of at least 5 or more. i've had a few infestations cleared up by these guys even if they ate fish food everyday but it takes time. or the least appealing choice is to use chemicals as cullymoto suggested. either way good luck but I'm always leary of pet store advice, many mean well but don't really have much practical knowledge depending where you go. This site has plenty of people well versed in aquarium skills that can be of help anytime keep on posting  cheers
  16. In a pinch they can do all right in the five gallon for a couple weeks if necessary, they're pretty hardy fish and will still grow out once you move them. I don't see any problems with the multies, half the fun of fish keeping is all the mixing and matching combos, sometimes seeing what works is trial and error as long as no one gets seriously hurt lol.. just be sure and plan ahead who gets moved if it doesnt work out. I personally would have no problems keeping all three in the same fifty five gallon that way you'll know if you have a pair later on. In my opinion there is plenty of room there. They do love plants but really mostly to pick and taste, i've never noticed them decimate a planted aquarium. Vals are a particular favourite as well as amazon swords for breeding etc. Scalare angels are a lot less fussy than Altum or Leopoldi angels. good luck and have fun
  17. I have one but never used it. was never really sure what it was all about as it was given to me. are they usefull with a sump I wonder. good luck with yours let us know the results
  18. I use prime to remove chlorine and chloramine etc. My tanks and sump systems are quite large so I only do water changes once a month. Prime is a great product, one bottle lats practically for ever
  19. I'd go with SpruceGruve's suggestion that's just brilliant ! for a simple easy solution that wont cost hardly anything
  20. shouldnt be a problem as you described. i've had a few in apt's and condos, from what I remember as long as you straddle the joists you should be fine, i hadn't any problems that way
  21. The reason i said that is back in the 80's they were a fearsome large central american species but in the last few years they, due to spawning readily in aquaria they have somehow shrunk in size to where they will breed by 2-3" and rarely grow much beyond that size approx 4.5" is among the largest I've seen in the last few years. They even have lost their reputation somewhat of being quite aggressive and territorial. Some of this has been attributed to accidental inbreeding by amatuer hobbyists like a tank full of guppies just given er' all year long. Quite often convicts were like having a bunch of farm kittens you just couldnt give them away due to being so prolific. They were a nice looking fish whereby males would get some blue in the dorsal fin and females would get nice orange or red bellies when they came into season and were quite impressive as a larger cichlid. I remember later in the 90's seeing convict/firemouth hybrids around in stores as well. ahhh memories
  22. oh yeah totally a central american convict cichlid lol and a small one at that. Does anyone remember when these used to be a large cichlid? like 8" plus for males and hyper aggressive..... that is until they got over bred and inbred lol
  23. You can run both filtres with no problem on the new tank, one thing you could do is to seed the new filtre with media from your old one which will rapidly colonise and give you no issues should you need your old filtre on the pre existing tanlk. i've done this many times and never lost fish in either tank just keep doing the usual water changes and you'll be fine IMO
  24. Sweet pics bro !! love that Leo....what kinda cichlid is that in the last pic ?
  25. every now and then mine gets the same thing. It's from banging into the tank walls. it will heal slowly
